I LOVE MY CAR and i have had it for about a year (1992 mitsubishi 3000gt) i have had a different motor put in it already but the CAR had about 148000 miles on it. the car has a lack of power and it smokes every now and then...like when i let it sit for a while. the smoke is a white or a light gray (oil)but i wanted to know what common problems with 3000gt's are associated with smoking......is there a common problem that alot of owners experience or is this just another case of bad valve seals?

i also need a place to get cheap replacement body parts (front-end damage thanks to my girlfriend)

thanks....feel free to email me at [email protected]

actually, I see that problem alot with 3000gt's. I test drove a '95 SL, and all was good, until i looked back at the exhaust. blue smoke everywhere. I asked the mechanic who was inspecting the car if it was a common thing, and he told me that he recently bought a '94 Stealth for his niece, and it had the exact same problem. Also, my friend just bought a 5 spd '95 SL, and his car smokes every once in a while BADLY, so I believe that it's an all too common problem, bad valve guide seals.

I suggest rebuilding the engine, but i'm not a mechanic, so dont take my word for it.

Also, for body parts, nothing beats the junkyard, or internet's junkyard, www.ebay.com :)

i think it's the transfer case. there is a recall on it so you can get it fixed free.

LOL dude the transfer case has nothing to do with the car smoking.

judo roe. It sounds as if the motor is just tired. You need to do a compression check to see how things are internally. Its a possibility of bad valve seals, leaking head gasket, or bad rings. My car right now smokes under hard acceleration. Its definitely down on power from where it used to be but that will all change soon. I am getting a motor with 55k miles and then purchasing a single turbo kit with front mount and all.:)

If it's bad valve seals the smoke will be bluish in hue, if its a head gasket it will be white and you'll have bubbles in your oil (and around dipstick).
If it lacks overall power, get a compression test and a tuneup.
Lastly, common problems and shops that specialize in our cars are listed in the FAQ...for questions like these, please consult the FAQ prior to asking.

ok guys...check this,

i took the car up to the "muffler man" to get an exhaust leak fixed, and i also changed the oil (went to a thicker oil) oil filter and pcv valve. as of right now the smoking as seemed to have stopped but the car still has a lack of power. no oil in the radiator, no water in the oil. now what could be causing the lack of power?? im going to guess that it is the valve seals but im not a mechanic either. im just a poor dude who loves his car and wants it fixed.

p.s. is there any one who could turn me on to a place to get a new motor for my ride.....and what are some cool parts web sites to check out?

thanks guys for your advice

How many miles are on the motor that is in it...when was the last tuneup. Perhaps do a compression test, intake pressure test(very cheap to do...check out FAQ), and perhaps a tuneup(plugs, fuel filter).

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!

ok guys. im lookin into a compression test. as far as the plugs, plug wires, filters etc. (tune up) that all was done slightly less than a year ago. i think the problem lies in either the valve seals or the piston rings. no water in the oil, no oil in the water. i havent noticed the car smoking hear lately since i switched to the 50W racing oil. maybe that will slow down the leak until i get out of school and can afford to work on it.

p.s. where can i get a decent....well priced body kit????

thanks guys....keep the help comin

I'd go with valve seals on this one, unless you redline alot. Valve seals are more common. Ebay is my first choice for any accessories.
