i have a 2nd gen. honda ZC just came from japan. i am wanting some ideas or tips on what to do with this engine. i am planning on turbocharging it with about 5-9psi boost. now i have taken it appart and its on an engine stand. should i just give it a full rebuild, and block gaurd, then turbo..or i was thinking maybe cams and rods and other stuff. i am on a budget so im not going to be able to do pistons and new sleves and whatnot.. so please just some ideas. thank you

I think pistons should be in your list first and then rods. I know your on a budget but they are important when turbocharging. Unless you want a whole in one of your stock pistons or a bent or broken rod. I say rebuild, pistons, rods.

yeah screw the cams, make it more reliable. Think about it this way, the cams will be pointless if you blow your shit up and all you'll get is a little more hp from it (them, which ever the case may be). 95dxcivic said it; pistons and rods.

well yes cams are kinda " ify" to begin with so i prolly won't get them. as for the pistons idk if i can afford them or find them to fit with stock sleeves. but i do know that the stock internals can handle quite a bit of power like i said im only running 5-9psi so i think the stock pistons should do, both really good ideas thou. so thank you

one other thing witch would be an easier swap for this engine a civic hatchback or coupe/sedan?

They're all the same. Though with a CX or VX you'll have to wire the O2 sensors. The Cx is a 1 wire and the VX is a 7 wire; and both need to be converted to a 4 wire. Other than that it's all the same.

R U sure?? because i read in " Honda engine swaps" by aron bonk that the fuel injection will have to be changed over to the ZC/integra injection setup. but ne way i mean will i have to buy new mounts and everthing? i am pretty sure that i will bolt right in because the ZC i basicly a dohc D- series engine.

ZC is not necessarily DOHC, there is also a SOHC ZC. So I guess the question is which is it; DOHC, SOHC, SOHC VTEC? which ever it is the rods and piston will be able to handle up to 200hp before u need to replace them. a cheap replace ment instead of new rods, are the rods out of an 86-87 integra D16A1. they will handle about 50hp more than the ones you have presently. you could also take the ones you have and shotpeen them and polish them. that'll add some strength, but not tons.

well he stated that he has the motor, I'm pretty sure he would know if it is a DOHC or SOHC motor if the motor is sitting right in front of him.
If all you are looking for is 9psi, don't bother messing with internals, they can handle 9 psi easy. Unless it's like a T72 turbo you plan on using. The one thing I would do is get a thicker head gasket. It'll drop compression a little bit making it a little safer. But as far as block internals go, I don't think you need to replace anything.

okay i have the DOHC ZC, its rated at 130hp. i am pretty sure that the stock internals are good up to 200hp.

Intake manifold? should i mess with porting the head and performance intake manifold. don't know ne one that has an aftermarket intakemanifold so i don't know how much it would effect ne thing?

honestly, i've heard a few people say that porting a honda head really isn't necessary, that it doesn't improve it enough to make up for the cost. However I haven't done it myself, so I can't say yeh or neh. Since u plan on boosting, then porting the head really wouldn't be necessary. as for the manifold, that could go either way. you port it, then u'll lose sum structural integrity because of positive pressure instead of the factory negative pressure. a performance manifold would be the better route to go in this case. but that's just my 2cents.
