Newbie here.
My girl friend just bought a 97 V8 Trans Am with a 6 speed. Does this year Trans Am have the LS1 or LT1? The little lady had a run in with a Beemer and wants some more power...I'm thnking of a dry NO2 kit, with that in mind how much HP can the stock clutch handle before it starts to slip? TIA

It has a LT1 and Nos is good for some cheap quick horsepower but will lead to destruction if not properly set up for and in most cases even if your set up for it.

So Nos is not the way to go? How much extra HP can the stock clutch hold?

The stock 6 speed system is good for 400 -450 Horsepower unless your dealing with a high mileage vehicle.

No Problem.
Headers, Mild to moderate Cam, Some head porting will deliver the power your looking for most likely and will not require a bottle of juice to be filled up everytime you wanna go fast.

Is there much performance to gained from the use of a Power Programmer? I have already planned to install some headers, who makes the best?

Hooker makes the best headers for the money IMO and programmer's really isn't worth it but programming can go a long way check out www.pcmforless.com and www.madz28.com
