X-box anyone?

I was curious if anyone has put an x-box in their car, and if so any mounting suggestions. I was planning on removing my glove box in my 98' civic coupe ex, and building a type of cubby so to speak and covering with vinyl. Making it easy to remove and play in home and car, by keeping extra wires connected in the car. Thanks

Why not see if you can rig to be under the passenger seat. The little tray popping out would be sweet too. Actually, u could use that for a cup holder . HEHEHEHEHE

I work at a car audio place and we put an xbox in our display car. Because we're a pro shop we had to do something kinda radical...
We split it all up, the disc assembly is in the dash, just like any 1/2 DIN accessory. the eject and boot buttons as well as the controller are relocated to by the ebrake. then becuase there was no room to keep it with the disc assemby we moved the circuits back farther into the dash... if u want more info hit up my AIM name

1gspot That is a great idea and i'm sure it was fun to do, but I would like to be able to take the x-box inside and play as well. Thats why i was thinking to remove the glove box. Then if i ever need to sell the car I could put the glove box back on.

I have seen 5.6" monitors put in place of cup holders in 96-98 civics

you will be surprised how little room there is inside a glove box, even if you cut stuff out it is really cramed. It sounds to me like the best option for you is under the seat...if it will fit there, xboxs are huge

I've got an XBOX and a ps2 in my car, and i plan to resess the XBOX into the centre of the rear seat, then cover it with strong perspex so someone can sit on it if nessessary. put some plastic mirror stuff in their and some green neons and you've got an install to be proud of,.,.,.,. i like the dismantling idea,.,.,.,.,.,

the only problem with dismantling any prefab electronic is that u can have current drop over longer wires. for those who dont know that means you cant move parts too far or they wont work anymore.

that's why the electronic gods invented multimeters... as long as the control board recieves a signal it will process it.. If you rewind about 2 years ago, there was a guy who put 7 different systems into a computer case (small server case) Atari, PS2, Gamecube, nintendo, SNES, nintendo 64, and Dreamcast. it all fit, lots of custom fitament, but you can cram it all into anything, just have to have some knowledge and the time to do it.

Not to mention in an xbox the shielding for the mobo is prefabed to fit the case, as soon as you gank the mobo out, if its not shielded you run the risk of frying the processors as soon as those 15in subs in your trunk with the 40,000 watt amplifier kick in. Speaking of the mobo, I am curious as to where/how you mounted it, as well as how/what you used for the power supply since the stock is designed for 120V AC.
(Don't think I don't believe you, I'm just curious what you did.)

it's called a protected AC/DC converter.. you can go to any car parts store.. I have one that plugs into my 12v cigarette lighter. you can power up a tv, laptop, PS2, or Xbox easily with it.. and you can always take the internals out of one, and hardwire it into the car. the motherboard is easily protected.. with some pieces of lexan to protect the backside. and bolt the Mobo to the lexan.. easy enough, just because the xbox's internals are exposed does not mean it increases the risk of something damaging it.. the most I would worry about is hitting a lot of potholes, and screwing the HD read heads.. I'd definitly replace it with a laptop HD that can handle more Gforce shock.

You know, I have heard of converters before in airplanes, but I have never seen one small enough to fit in a car. After looking I found some, thats crazy. I admit I'm totally retarded for thinking you would need to convert the 12V DC coming off your cars wiring to 120VAC, just so that the x-box's power supply can turn it back into 12VDC. I do a whole bunch of X-box moding, and when you remove the shielding your reducing the needed electro-magnetic field to short the board and its componenets (I found out from experience when I tested my scratch built clear acrylic case, right next to the surround sound system, sadly I no longer have a 1st gen x-box). Thats why I was saying if you have huge subs they can fry the board. I have no idea exactly how likley it is to happen in your case since distance from, and power of the speakers are big factors, but your increasing the chance.

we actually left the mobo in the case where it was protected we just extended out things like the cd tray controller ports and power/eject buttons. Because we created a custom dash there was plenty of room behind it for goodies because there is no ac, glove box, airbags, etc

do you have any pics of this?
it sounds really cool, i'd love to see what it looks like. i have my X-BOX 3-4 years now, never thought of moding it, i might now,,.,.,.,

the other thing I was thinking also was taking the X-box Mobo and placing it in a pelican case, and doing the same with extending the function buttons, and the DVD drive into the cab. and secure the pelican case under the hood, or in the trunk of the car..

oh i forgot to mention, as to the current drop problem with extending out stuff. the controler ports are def not a problem cuz our car has ports in the trunk to play on the trunk tvs
