Dont let yerself get ripped off. Almost 200 dollars for a filter and a peice of pipe? Make yer own. You can make one thats just about as good as those ones for about 50 bucks. Just pick up a k&n cone filter for 40 bucks and then go to home depot and get some 4 inch black abs pipe, a 90 degree elbow, and some couplers and yer all set. There are a few websites around with instructions on how to build one. See if you can find someone who knows of one. I used website instructions to help me build mine but i cant remeber the url.

Here's a couple for you, IF you want to build your own.

That should give you acouple days.
Now let me tell you what I think, if anyone cares. Buy the Thrasher. I think it's one of the best. SLP has a nice one too. Thrashers only trouble is the "tin" they use to cover the CPU. It just sits on a peice of rubber. Need to buy the CPU tray. Then you have a nice setup. It's what I'm using.
OH, thank BIG-L for the links. The man has just about everything.

I made mine according to the John Vegas link above. Great instructions and photos and simple to do. And true, cost-filter $45, Home Depot $7. I'm gonna fabricate a cover for the opening in the fender around the pipe out of an old heavy rubber floor mat.

FWI seems to be the most cost effective way to cold air, however a true CAI box that is well insulated and separate from the engine compartment will have a little better airflow w/near same temps due to shorter intake pipe and less static pressure.
if you're a poor college student like me, go with the FWI and just be sure to fabricate some kind of water deterrent for the filter just in case.
if you can't decide whether to take the GT, the GTP, or the GTX to work today, then you go and get the CAI ;)
happy intaking

blurr,
I had that trouble every day. Which car I was going to take to work. Stored the GT and GTP, that took care of that.
To the CAI. 90% on the market have no insulation at all. Most sell kits to wrap the "hose".
Know what it is to be a college student. After doing 3 years in the Army, I did 4 years of college. Money gets real tight. That's why some of the "home made" items. They work.
Warrior,
Big-L will always be the "LINK MASTER". The guy just has a way of finding what everyone needs. And as soon as he gives me his car.......

Blurr,
And you know what's nice about those people that let me stay outside their house. Everyday around 6AM, they throw bread out for the birds. I get breakfast in bed!!
I hope that someday you can have what I have. A great wife. A home, cars and a mind to help the young.
Good luck.

On topic! On topic!!! Don't make me go get the paddle!
FWI's are very cost-effective......lots of bang for your buck. I personally have two problems with the FWI though, which is why I went with a Thrasher.
1) Looks kind of hill-billy.
2) We sometimes get a lot of rain. Even if you don't drive through water deep enough to suck it up, your filter could get pretty wet. Wet air filters kill performance and gas mileage.
That is all!

Well thanks for all the inputs everybody! And thanks for gettin the thread back on the topic carnutcass lol. I think that im going to wind up getting the thrasher intake. Where I live, sometimes the roads pretty much become streams, and from what im hearing, the thrasher intake is a better choice for these conditions.

90% on the market have no insulation at all.
I like the MSP cai  had it on the car since 2000 and it is one that has insulation and comes with a very nice PCM tray

Kid......it's so funny to me that everyone in St. Louis was all rah rah about the Cards when only a year ago they threatened to move the team if we didn't build them a new open-air stadium. What a mess....voters turned it down but the county government agreed to pay for it anyway. How's that for democracy?!?!?!

Hey, I live in Florida. We vote, and Bush's brother makes it come out they way. We voted and pasted a high speed train and smaller class room. The bush boys didn't like that. So he turned it down and now it's back again this year. If it wasn't for their Mother, the whole family would be in jail. (keeping that can of worms going, ah?)

I think the thing I'm most concerned about is the war in Iraq. My son will be 18 in a couple of years and in spite of the fact that I did 8 years in the Army, I don't want him to have to go. Hell, for that matter, I don't want to see any more soldiers die when American's were never truly at risk from Saddam.

Well since everyone else is off the subject I will throw my two cents in as well. Think of it like this niether of them really makes a great president like reagan but the republicans are the ones that will give us military people our raises. I support bush but wish there was another canidate to consider.
As far as the Irag/Afgan wars I think the world needs a glass parking lot I am tired of all the BS that comes with being a first wold country. You guys know what I am talking about, we can do this we can't do that. I say tag and bag those MF's! If they are a terrorist pump two in the head. anyway
before I say what I really feel (lol) I am going to stop.
I have always been a little hesitant about FWI because everyone always says "if you suck up water then your screwed" CAI is what I think I am going to do for my GTP.

OK Jeff,
MY last time. I liked Reagan. But in the last four years, not saying a word about the year. Has anything turned better for the US. The price of gas from $1.30 to $2.35 (Prem). Food, and everything else that is moved by trucks are twice as high. Everything has gone sky. Everytime we get someone who has anything to do with oil, we get screwed. We're fighting a war in the wrong country.
The old people had a way to buy their drugs from Canada. That way they could buy food also. Bush said no, we can't make money off that.
Sorry Jeff, I wish we had ONE person we could vote for.
OK no more for me. Sorry to anyone that this hurts. But anytime I look at the world.....

Only in this country can a group of people get along this well when their political views vary so much! This is definitely the place to be!

you know what i don't get is that they spent over a billion dollars to basically to talk shit about each other. you turn on the news "he said this and he said this back" and its almost to the point where the "mama" jokes will start flying. what they should do is go into the ring, slap on the gloves and just go at it, never mind all this bitch talking. hell, they could give me the money and they can have at it in my living room. i'll call HBO have george and the gang televise it and everything. just might have a problem with space for equipment.
to the topic: i've had no problems with my FWI two thumbs up!
