i know it says its a 20 gallon tank but heck i can put 22-25 gallons in mine and it reads a 1/4 past full and then if you step on the gas it drops like to half a tank but then comes back up idk kinda stupid and annoying

I hear that this is common across nearly all of GM's trucks. A neighbor of mine with a Chevy 1500, 2003 pickup says his gague is squirrely all of the time. He as well as myself firmly believe to never let your truck drop past 1/4 tank. It's not good for the pump. I once made the mistake of parking my '95 Blazer on a nose-down incline with a 1/4 tank of fuel....

That truck would not start until I hiked back with a 5 gallon can of gas to toss in the tank. :eek7:

My 96 can only accept 16-17 gallons of fuel in my tank at the pump. Do some later years have larger tanks?

yeah but in my 91 when it gets to the 1/4 tank mark it either goes real quick or not quick at all go figure usually once a month that lucas fuel treatment goes in ill get 18 mpg and thats darn good when ur gettin 13-14 before use

It is probably because there is still 3 gallons still in the tank even when the gauge reads empty.

This is often the case so people fill up before the tank is bone dry.

No one should be running their tank till empty anyway seeing it puts a lot of stress on the fuel pump and can lead to condensation and rust forming on the exposed inside portion of the tank.

Just a info tidbit for you.

I've read that 4 door models came with 19 gallon tanks, and 2 door models came with 20 gallon tanks.

no.

It varies from year to year.

For my model year (1995) the 2 door carries a 20 gallon tank, the 4 door (Like mine) carries a 19 gallon tank. I guess they shaved one corner off of it to allow an entry-way for the rear passenger doors. :)

anyone know of a kit to install an aux fuel tank? just something small with a 5 gallon reserve would be really neat

Anything can be had or built for a price, I will not say it is impossible either...

But have you actually gotten a look under your truck with all of the skidplates off? Where would you *PUT* the auxilary tank?

So I guess after reading some of the posts, it's normal for me to get 15 mpg on my 2002 Blazer Extreme?

In the winter when it is cold it would be normal.

Done a tuneup lately?

It's been about a year and 1/2. How long do they last? Thanks

My '96 gas gauge was always very stable and reliable. I recently had a new fuel pump put in (AC Delco) and now when i have 1/2 a tank it dips to 1/4 at stop signs and goes up to 3/4 on takeoff. It's so bad that if i come to a stop with less than 1/4 tank, it stalls due to lack of fuel. I then fill the tank (with 16 or less gallons), and the stalling immediately stops. I'm taking it back to the fuel pump shop for another look - any thoughts?

Chris

That stinks, my fuel guage moves like that too, but it has never stalled on me. I've heard that you shouldn't drive around with less than a quarter tank because it's hard on the pump, but that seems ridiculous. I would take it back and see if there's an error.
