Does anyone know how to install a timing chain onto a 2000 LS? The person working on the car already took the old one off but doesn't know how to put the know on back on. He doesn't know what to line up the new chain with.

v6 or v8?

Lord I hope it isnt the V8. I just looked at some details on that and all I can say is call a tow truck and take it to the dealer. Not that I would want to do one on a V6 but it is about half the work IMHO.

Why did he take his off?

Not to be a prick, but if a person is gonna do major surgery to their car, they REALLY need to have the service manuals.

I concur! I have cd's and subscriptions to online services that I use and even with these resources I defer to the dealer on the heavy stuff.

To be a LS Tech one really needs a Ford WDS computer and unfettered access to all the manuals.

to re install the timing chain there are 3 color links on the chains you can only see in in side light.put # 1 cylinder front left to top dead center put the right chain on first ,line the links up with the marks on crank an the cams compress the tensoner an put a small nail in the hole.make sure the crank is on the index mark not the key way check all to make sure it right then take out the nail .do the same for right bank also there are marks on the back of the cams that should be line up. when finsh spin the motor buy hand to see if the valves dont hit pisons also put a compresion tester an you get low test but you know you are wright good luck mike
