What do you guys think about people driven WRX's n just putting STi badges on? do u think its ok and not a big deal at all or do you think it aint cool? I dont really care cept for those who drive a stock RX or in the states i think u guys call it RS its the one lower than the WRX anyway putting STi badges on that is a bit :eek7:

it's just dumb. It's sad that they are trying to be cool by putting different badging on their car :disappoin . It's also really easy to tell an RS, WRX, and STI apart, so everyone knows that they aren't driving the real thing.

I have STI foglight covers that say STI on them. That doesn't mean I claim that my car is an STI.
So not EVERYONE is a loser ricer. But yea, there are some that have sti emblems on WRX's, but then again, some of them have extensive work done, and actually rival STI's.

that just means you are using STi parts, because STi is subarus tuning arm.....they are talking about badges, like the WRX STi badges on the trunk and the STi on the grill and what not.
on my rex, im getting the STi hood scoop, and the STi wing, but it will be completly debadged. only reason im gettung the hood scoop = larger volume of air to the intercooler, and the wing...well everyone knows the STi wing is just dead sexy.

if you have everything that would make your car an sti then by all means do it, whatever. Only ones that i dislike are the ones that are RS's and have badges, no work done, and have the STi badges. At least the subaru community is a little mroe sensible than the others. I went to the movies a few months ago and saw a civic GT-R........

Thats what i mean those people that cruise round in a totally stock RS n stick n sti badge and bullshit to people bout their 'mods'....this is what i call a poser. If someone has a mad car and you can see that theres a lot of work under the hood then i dont see a problem with sti parts. Its just those guys i said before i have a problem with but oh well, sorry if anyone misunderstood what i meant i didnt mean it like that.

Yeah... not a big fan of STi badges on non-STi cars (or TypeR badges or ///M badges or whatever). I am, however, a proponent of putting an STi decal on the side racecar style if you have STi parts on the car. I hate it when people say stuff like, "That guy shouldn't have STi stuff on his car if it's not an STi." The car may not be STi trim level, but it has STi (the company) parts. It's like putting Tein or Stoptech labels on stuff. It's acceptable if you have the parts. Or, if your RS or WRX can smoke an STi because of all the mods you've done to it, by all means re-badge it. There's a guy that shows up at some of the autocrosses I go to with a C5 Corvette, and it has a C5R decal on it. It didn't come from the factory as a C5R, but now it is worthy of the sticker so it doesn't bother me. I guess it's a subjective thing for me. I think on a branding level (not performance), I put the Impreza WRX STi in the same category as the Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer, since STi is a separate entity within the Subaru umbrella, unlike Redline which is part and parcel of the Saturn name brand or MazdaSpeed which is part and parcel of Mazda.

same with me. i totally agree with you, and thats what i was trying to get at in my reply. decals are acceptable, but i think the badges should be left to the trim level.

Decals, badges...all the same. Rebadging when you have enough mods to beat an STI?? C'mon, if you want to have the STI badge that badly, buy a F***ing STI.
Decals if you have parts on them?? I really don't get the point of that. Are you putting the parts in for the performance, or because you just want to put the decals on to let people know that you've got them?? I personally like those cars that look subtle without a bunch of F***ing decals but still kick you butt. Decals and rebadging are just juvenile in my humble opinion. I'm sure a lot would disagree...go ahead...put your decals on so that you can let other people know that you've got them.

well....decals are a good way of making a clean car, cleaner. were not talking about outrageous vinyl, but stratigically and tastefully placed brand logos. and STi is subaru's tuning arm, not a trim level. if youve got STi parts in the car, toss an STi decal on there. badging is just stupid.

I'm not sure what you mean... making clean car cleaner by putting decals on...I would imagine that it would look "cleaner" without a bunch of crap on it.
IMHO, only people who should put decals are pepole who have sponsors, meaning that they have to put them on. But that's where our opinions part...

I'm happy to remove any badging/decals/whatever from my car to make it as anonymous as possible.
I removed the "SUBARU" and "2.5RS IMPREZA" badges from the trunk lid.
I removed the "2.5RS" decals from the wing.
I removed the stars badge from the front grille. But since there's an obvious gap left, I replaced it with a black "i" badge. Next to nobody around here will know what that means.
I've considered removing my wheel centercaps that say "SUBARU," but I don't think I will without a blank replacement.
I've also considered changing out my steering wheel or maybe the aribag to remove the "SUBARU" from there, too...
Just about the only other thing, which I left, was the "AWD" decal near the taillights. And that's staying only because I've heard horror stories of old Imprezas getting towed without flatbeds and taking huge drivetrain damage.
It's my car; I know what it is and what it isn't. I couldn't care less if anyone else knows, and in fact, I'd prefer they don't.

i watched a tow truck try to take a wrx off before (non flatbed) he back up maybe 1/2 a foot before he hit the brakes and jumped out of the truck. a flat bed was there about 30 mins later.all i heard was a loud pop and thought "at least $6,000"

I don't mind giving free advertising when I see fit to do so. I thought about taking the SUBARU and the WRX off the back of my wagon, but then I thought, "Well, if more people see it and like it and buy one of their own, that means more aftermarket." I feel that way about decals on the side of the car, too. Although I personally prefer my own car to have no decals, I think it looks good on some cars when it's well-done and actually reflects the parts extant on the car.

In regards to the tow truck...I remember reading that automatic transmission has to go on a flatbed, but a standard can be towed in neutral. Does anyone know?

I know a guy in SoCal w/ an '01 RS (almost positive it's an MT) which was once two-wheel-towed, and they had to do major replacements in his drivetrain. Like, all the differentials, IIRC.
Even on an MT in neutral, spinning the rear wheels while the fronts are tied down will fry at least the center diff. (right?)

Yeah, the M/T is no good for regular towing, either. Gotta flat-bed it.
freakray
10-28-2004, 04:06 PM
Actually, according to Subaru, the M/T can be towed if all 4 wheels are on the ground and the car is in neutral.
The A/T on the other hand always has to be flat bedded.
Whenver I park my car(M/T), I always leave it in gear so it can't be towed anyhow.

When the WRX was towed on a standard tow truck, it destroyed the center diff along with the transmission i believe. Hence why i thought of a $6,000 price figure. My statement before made plenty of sense, not my fault tools like nismo power cant understand it.
