No rest from modeling !!!....heres my next project that i will get started in the next few days

A big thankyou to my mate DVSNCYNIKL who managed to get me the kit from the states and post it to me last week...got it today, so the timing was perfect. Cheers...i owe you one !!!

I have to say that for a Revell kit it is pretty bloody good. The mold lines and general finish of the kit is 100 times better then any other Revell kit that i have made/seen.

Still not sure on the build yet, looks like it will need a little lowering.
Not sure on paint colours either....have about 1 million ideas going through my mind at the moment.
I'll post a few pics up in the morning when the light is better of the kit.

Started on the kit today with the sanding of the body, not much to sand on it as its very nicely molded. Only a couple of lines around the trunk and front.
Cutting most bits of the trees to check fitting and sanding the odd bit to get rid of mold lines.

Everything will be then be primmed afer assembly of engine halfs, seats that are molded in two bits and other bits that can be put together first.

The tyres are not the yuk bloody Revell ones you usually get that take forever to sand all the crap of them. They are a nice soft rubber and well detailed.

Now i know most of you are thinking..... "what a piece of crap car to do....PMan has finally lost the plot" :p :p ....but this is the type of car you either love or hate....you all have your own veiws of it.
Coming from a HotRod back ground it was always a dream to own somethig like this, so this is about as close as i will get to having one

sweet...I love street rods. My fav is the '34 ford 5 window. to bad the only kit is an amt, which is quite crap. I wonder if the revell '33 is any better.

Finally got to start the kit today.
Spent a while sanding molding lines off bits. Have started to put together a few bits for ease of assembly.
Hopefully start the painting of bits tomorrow.

Now for the "DONT DO THIS AT HOME" bit.

The rims are two piece and need to be glued together. Now the rims are to wide for the tyres  on the back and need to be sanded down a bit. You can't sand to much though as the rims are not very thick.
So i sanded them down as much as i could, but they still didn't look right.
I then decided to glue the outside rim to the tyre, and have the inner rim sticking out on the inside were you wont be able to see it.
The first attempt failed...so out come the SUPERGLUE
Put the glue on both pieces, some on the tyre and held it in place with my thumb untill it dried.

BUT.... the glue run through the rim onto my thumb and glued the rim to my thumb
30minutes later and missing some skin to the thumb, we parted company after soaking it in some cleaning stuff from my work.

I felt a right plonker walking around the house with this wheel stuck to my thumb:( :( trying to get it off.
Just as well i was home by myself.

This forum is acting like a medium, through which the skill of the master modellers is passing to us lesser builders, and soon we will be producing cars of spectacular realism, while the former pros begin to create pieces of what can only be described as crap with fogged up glass sections and superglue fingerprints, visible brush strokes and torn decals, ultra heavy orange peel and so much dust in the paint job that it looks like a carpet.

Or maybe not.

Spent today building and wiring the motor. Most parts fitted well but still needed a little bit of cutting and sanding in places.
The only bugger about the engine is it says to add decal 13 to both halfs of the rocker covers, but there isn't a decal 13 !!!
Leads have been added so far and once the engine is fitted to the chassis, other wiring like starter motor/alt/fuel lines etc will be added.
Has a fair bit of chrome on the engine which needs to be removed so the glue can stick parts together. The whole engine has been glued together with Kristal Klear as there are lots of different paint colours which may bleed onto another colour.

Chassis is being built at the moment and is being a real pain to get it all glued and set into place. There is very little that holds the rear diff in place and has taken a while to get it to fit nice and neat.
Most of the parts have been given a "Welded" on look by using Kristel Clear to bond the parts together better.
Pics will fellow later on in the weekend :)

Here is the detail of the rear setup which has good detail but hard to get just fitting and sitting right.

Final shot of the engine just sitting in the chassis.
Hopefully get the wheels and the rest of the running gear on it then get the body on to check the ride height etc.

Warren , the page with #13 decal on that instruction sheet is left over from the drag version "Big John"Mazmanian '41 Willy's kit.
See the scan below.:bandit:
Mike

The real valve covers were finned with Big Johns name engraved on them the decals were SUPPOSED to give the look of fins.
Keep up the good work !!

Thanks for the comments guys :D

Daggerless....the belts were painted by hand with a very tiny brush for the detail around the pulleys etc.

Tom_S8....Cheers

Mike......Thinks for the info on the decals. I think alot of the molds are from that kit as there are a few parts on the 'tree's" that are spare.

UPDATE FROM TODAY.
Chassiss is about 80% finished now. After getting it all together(see pic below) i've had to do some major lowering of the front end as it looked more like a bloodly 4X4   .
Springs were cut and holes drilled deeper so that the front end could sit alot lower to the ground. Most pics i've seen of these cars have there front wheels tucked well up inside the guards. So today has been a big muck around getting the car to look right in its stance.
When the front end has dried enough i shoot a pic to give you a look and see what you all think.
Next job will be the colour....still have no idea as to what i'll do

This pic was before it was taken apart and lowered about 5mm in the front....

What do you use for the wires on the engine?

daggerlee

Did you mask while painting the belt assembly at all?

primera man
03-09-2002, 03:14 PM
Nismo Kid......The wires are brought from the model shop and you just cut to what ever length you want. They have very tiny copper in them so they can be molded to shape.

Daggerlee.....No masking, just a steady hand and time

I'm thinking of trying my TR's flat 12. :silly: The heads seem to have tiny little leads right where the wires would go. Now all I need is the diagram of which wire goes where... :p

primera man

I drilled out each head as there was a place to do it. The dissy was alot harder because it was so small :( .
Most times i drill seperate holes in the dissy and wire it in the same order as the real thing, but this time i had to drill one big hole in the centre and only "just" got all 9 wires into it.
Heres the tool to use for those who have never seen the parts to use when doing this.
Its a very small drill which can take very tiny drills. The one in it is the one for the wires. You change the chuck on it depending on the drill size.
Hope this helps out a bit

That's cool, thanks. What sizes are those bits? The smallest one I own (at the moment  ) is 1/16" (~1.59mm). I need to get some tiny ones.

Do pin-vices have moving parts? Or do you just twirl them? :D

The very end of it turns in your hand so it is very easy to use.
Not sure on the drill size...getting to old to remember !!!

When i got the drills i went to a place that sells small drills and took all the wires i mostly use with me and he measured them with a micrometer and got the drills to match

Looks like it is coming along pretty well there mate!! Great attention to detail on that engine. I have one suggestion if you haven't already done so. you might want to give the body a custom look. Monotone color scheme would look nice on this. Maybe frenching the headlights and such. Just a thought.:D

DVS......I've been thinking along those lines but i've spent ages looking around the net for pics and the more i see of them done in one nice simple colour the more i'm starting to like that idea.
Well here's a little sneak look at the ride height :D :D :D
Spent the day with the drills/files etc etc to finally come up with a look that i think is "spot on" :flash: :flash:

Body is primmed now and awaiting a colour.
