I want to replace the stereo on my 89 Bonneville. Are there any tips or troubles that I should be aware of when removing the original one. It's AM/FM with a cassette.

We had to bust out my stereo. We couldn't get it out of the dash. One other tip I remember, the wire connector for the new stereo- There are 2. 1989 fits into both of the year spans (I think one is 1985-1990 and one is 1987-1992) so you might want to put that part in, in the parking lot, and remember a reciept.

I found a post that mentioned all you had to do was remove the 2 screws to get the stereo out. I removed the 2 torx head screws above the stereo and it didn't budge. when you say you had to bust it out , can you elaborate? Are there other screws you can't get at so you have to break the stereo out?

It was a few years ago, so I don't remember everything. But I know that after the 2 screws came out, it wouldn't budge. We didn't break the stereo, but we mangled it enough it wouldn't go back in if we had changed our minds. I also remember having to take the dash apart (more than you would have thought necessary).
I think my boyfriend at the time yanked it out. There are more screws on the sides I think that are very difficult to get at.
Ack, I am sorry, it has been soo long since it was removed, I just remember it taking a very long time, and the end result wasn't pretty.

For all 87-91 Bonneville there are 2 torx screws on the top of the stereo via the plastic spacer/plate.... But there is one bracket on the rear of the stereo that is attached behind and above the ashtray with yet another Torx screw... It only takes a few minutes to remove and replace the unit...lol
