A question for you GS-T and GSX guys

Im currently in search of a 97-99 2g, GS-T or GSX, I would much rather get the GSX but Im having a hard time finding one close enough to me. Theres a lot of GS-T's for sale though basically on auto-trader. So my question, should I settle for the GS-T, or would I be smarter to get the GSX? Thanks.

from my noob experience GSX's are very very hard to find especialy with miles under 100k. In terms on the awd launch its great and all but the gsx is heavyer and is slower on the highway and on the top end. the only good thing about a gsx is the launch. oh and i bet they are better in the snow...

LUCKY!

However, when I got my GST, I was completely satisfied. If I had a chance to get a GSX I would, but I think I'd like to keep my first gst.

Not to be a hard a$$, but this thread title should be guys/girls.

there are alot of older gsx's here in spokane. at least 3 a week for sale in the local wheels and deals. 1500 - 3000 grand. every once in a while you'll see a 99 with 80+ for 8999 or so. there isnt a huge dsm tunner market here. i bought my 96 gsx 5 speed with 112k for $3000.

Thanks for the tips, I always thought GSX would be way better than the GS-T, but I bet they both have they're ups n downs, Im looking for a tuner car but strictly street for now. Theres a nice 98 GS-T for sale 9 miles away, so I may go test drive it, I've driven them before and liked them. It's going for 11,000 with 68k miles... thanks again

if it does its only because they get more powertrain loss, exhaust and some more free mods will fix that

The minor advantages of FWD being lighter and less drivetrain loss don't matter much when you consider wheel spin.

The answer is GSX, especially if you get snow and ice in the winter. If you don't plan on modifying the car, live in florida, and like buying new front tires... the GST might be an option.

I think the thread title should be more descriptive of the questions around here, but for the record my girl friends call THEIR girl friends 'those guys'.

If you can get your hands on a GSX go for it. You wont regret either choice.

he has something wrong with his car dsmeclipse lol.15 psi?, i am running 18 on my t-25 for now. So far i have ran a 13.7 in a quarter with a 120$ in mods under the hood, plus the must 3" turbo back exhaust

97dsmeclipse
10-25-2004, 10:51 PM
yea you keep running 18psi on a t-25, you sound like a guy around here with a t-25 running 21psi and is getting a t3\to4 and says hwes going to run like up in the 25 range with nothing dune to his car but injetors and apex exhaust

18 psi is fine on a T25. I don't know what you mean by this, but if you are trying to imply he's running too much boost, I disagree. Kevin ran some of his fastest times on the T25 at like 21+ psi, and never hit fuel cut. The argument is that the exhaust wheel is spinning so fast it heats the intake air beyond being productive, and the heat overcomes any gains in psi.

JoeWagon

over 16psi on a T25 won't be helpful on pump gas. I bet Kevin was running high octane leaded fuel, and in that case it does infact help.

A short ride in my car wil lanswer that question for you ;)

Wagons right on, qwhen I ran high boost it was on race gas. With pump gas you have to strike a balance between enough boost to make power, but not so much you get knock. In my case, 16 psi is the highest I could go without knock, and wouldnt you know, thats the boost I ran my best (pump gas) times at. :)

Good point guys, thanks for clarifying. I wasn't being nearly specific enough, especially for daily driving :banghead:

Its easy to fall into "race only" mode, or drag race only, or AWD only, etc. I also find it hard to be specific enough most of the time. Or maybe its general enough? :)

107 enough octane for ya? Thats what i get when i get to the track, i dont dare try higher than that!!! i run my car on empty to the track lol, so with my 94 i have in the tank i might drop octane down to 101 maybe. But go either GSX or TSI AWD all the way man.

I bought a GSX with the reasoning that we get pretty good snow fall and now here I am looking to buy a winter beater so I don't drive the X around on salted roads and what not. Just goes to show you... I'm an idiot. If you plan to mod a GSX don't plan for it to be a winter car. It's not that you can't it's just I'd rather shield my baby from rust.

After driving a TSi FWD and a TSi AWD (1G), i found the FWD is bit more fun cause of the torque steer. But the FWD could take a new driver by suprise so hold that wheel. Also, how is the torque steer on the 2G FWD, never driven a 2G FWD.

Yea, i get a lot of torque steer once i hit boost. But sometimes fun, but other times scarry. Its like your on a wild stallion or a bucking bull!!! http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/ices_lol_ani.gif

I think Ima get this 98' GS-T, its what I was looking for, 11,000 with 68k, but its in great condition body/interior wise. I think I'll be satisfied, all I wanna have is a car to start with that can throw me back a little. Thanks all.

thats not all true, i have a 90tsi awd and I dont have a problem pulling on cars from a roll or on the highway, as long as i am going around 70 and spool i can pull on just about anything.

Well, as its been pointed out by so many ppl, both of them have their advantages and disadvantages. I would say just go with your gut feeling. I got my 98 GS-T w/ 50K, but I had to wait 7 months for something like it to show up, and during that time didnt even see a GSX with less than 100K on it, and if it did, it was beaten up. If I did, I would have probably gone for it, but these days, 2G GSX's in perfect condition just dont show up very often.... Either way you'll get the boost! :iceslolan
