Me vs. RX-8

Alright, so on friday night I lined up with my friends RX-8(auto). I had been hearing some stuff about it and wanted to see if it was true. Well the first time we raced the light turned green and my friend wasn't ready and to say the least I put like 6 buses between us. The next time we raced my friend let my other friend drive the car so we are going along at 45mph he counts 1....2....3 and we both go at the same time at 60 I've got 1/2 car, we keep going at 75 I'm a car ahead, when I hit 85 I've got 1 1/2 cars and we shut down. Next we turn onto this road and go from a stop he counts again 1.....2.....3 instantly I jump a 1/2 car at 45 I have a car, at 65 1 1/2 cars and at 85 I had 2 cars and then we shut down. All in all they were good races and I was surprised at the results both times. I'm really happy that I beat an RX-8. :biggrin:

97 V6 'stang beatin a RX8??? HAHAHA i keep up with 2k3 V6 stangs and i've got a 89 Maxima! i doubt you can beat an RX8 dude...

hmm If the RX* wan an auto.. it might be possible. The RX8 autos are slow as "al get out".

Thats cause the auto RX-8's are like 197hp rather than 238, and I think with a bit less torque...either way I dunno about V-6 stangs beating an RX-8 and beating it that badly so many times...

Weigh about the same, 150hp for the stanger banger, 197 for the rx8. But torque on the other hand is 215 for the mustang and only 164 for the rx8. I'd say it might be close who knows.

I was in a standard RX8, and even they're not very quick. No sweet spot. Definately hard to believe that a 97 non-GT would beat one though.

what do the rx8's run anyway? just curious i know the import guys are into them n' stuff i don't know much about e'm. are they legit? overrated? what.

Over rated for a "sports car" but they were built more for a fun ride then a real high hp car. The throttle is smooth like many rotarys and trq is like most other n/a rotarys it has none. In order for the 8 to have an advantage it would need to be reved in the higher rpm range where its power curve is, a good rolling start and the v6 mustang would go down real fast. I think the rx8 runs 1/4 mile in the low to mid 15s maybe high 14s with the 6 speed. Its been a while since I thought about buying one and after reading on them I decided to stay with my 7 so the times could be different now.

I'm not really impressed with the new era imports, nothing like what they should be. However, I'm calling BS on this along with everyone else. Because I'm thinking now taht I could race and beat an RX8 from a roll, becasue I've raced and beat mid 90s V6 Stangs from a roll.

:dunno: I've beaten 97 Mustang GT's before, but, on the same settings, when I raced my buddies RX-8, he kept up, in fact, i took him by only ONE car length. It could have happened, cause I dont know the situation for sure, but not very likely in my opinion...

the Auto RX8's are completely nerfed.

but not nerfed enough to be slaughtered by a v6 stang.

dont those V6 Stangs come like 160 at wheels? my dad's V8 Tundra killed one one the highway. oh yeah, my cuzins Talon Tsi AWD drove normal and still killed one... those stangs are down there with the Ricers...

That is the 2nd of 3 races [only 2 on camera]. The 1st race, from a light, the original driver of the RX8 was not ready so the Stang did beat the 8 by a good length. We turned around and the 8 switched drivers, This run was from about 30mph or so. The 8 is an auto and the Stang has exhaust and intake. The RX8 WAS trying as I was having to keep up in the G.

yep I did that, didnt even look like a race....

take a vid in the daytime so we can actually see something..

car and driver got 5.9 to 60, and 14.5 for the 1/4 on the manual rx-8. they did it with a 8000rpm clutch drop.

That was the slowest race I've ever seen... I was like "when are they going ot start?" the whole way through.... then I saw the brake lights and fealt realy dissapointed...

wow....that was a boring race...

All that we wanted to prove was that the V6 Mustang beat an auto RX8...Not how fast the cars were...if we cared to show you all that we would take it to the track...but then it wouldnt be street racing...

Its a shame, unlike you guys, we all cant own blistering fast 11 sec cars....

Well lets put this into perspective, you beat a rx8 with a practically stock v6 mustang. Now I could go out and beat any new car if the driver really wasn't trying to race but thats just not going to happen on a daily basis.

As said before th rx8 are low to mid 15 sec cars in the auto trim, high 14 sec cars with manuals and the last time I checked plain v6 mustangs were running low 17s high 16s stock, not saying thats what your mustang would run but I don't think flowmaster 50 series muffler and an intake is going to put the mustang in the low 15s, I could be wrong but I dont think it's going to happen. Next time you try racing a rx8 try racing someone thats going to drive the car like their suppose to be driven.

I said it before and I'll say it again rotarys are high rpm performers, not low to mid range tourqe beasts. I personally wouldn't buy a new rx8 however there is a supercharged version coming out in the future but it still isn't going to make them much faster but they still beat practically stock v6 mustangs.

^^Agreed. I couldn't tell who won, much less if you were even racing. All I saw was some blurry tail lights and the road.

I'm not saying the race was slow, I'm saying that you cant tell who won. Or if it was even a race?

You wanted a video of the two cars racing to prove something. You got it. You want it to be shown in the day. You'll get it [if she [RX8] agrees]. NOW, you claim you can't tell who wins...When if you pause the video rigt before anyone puts on the brakes you can clearly see who wins.

I'm not the one racing, only chasing while my friend taped. But I do not understand what you all want...So far we have proved everything you have wanted, both drivers tried there hardest, the Mustng won...I've seen worse videos, mainly in-car vids where all you see are blinding headlights and trying to look through the A-pillar or back window...I guess if you all do not criticize someone on speech, its their videotaping capabilities...I'm sorry...we werent really trying to hard to make this a Fast and Furious III production...

Now that the cars have raced you say they are slow...did you expect some 12 second cars? We told you the stats of the cars...and you all knew they were both around 16 seconds...

First of all the RX-8 was racing, I have 4 witnesses of that and how is the car suppose to be driven its an automatic you just punch the gas and if you watched the video you would see that I won. I mean come on do you just not want to admit that I won.

I've watched the video five times, and let three of my buddies watch it. They all agree, you cant tell its a race at all, and if it was, there is no winner.

that video was pretty bad. i had a hard time telling if they were really racing or not. it looks like they were just cruising along on the highway, barely picking up speed. you might be telling the truth, the cars might of been racing, but from the video, it really is hard to agree.

That was the worst video i've ever seen.

I thought the auto RX8 was a 15.0 car?

The reason it might be hard to tell that they are racing is because (1) It is at night and the camera man isnt a pro. (2) I am chasing them in the G35Coupe which can outrun both cars by 1.5-2 seconds and I have no problem keeping up and just pacing them, staying behind the Mustang about the same length so of course, hes not going to run away from me.

v6 stang vs. auto rx8... thats barely a stepup from two hondas going at it.

If u look at the white lines on the road at the start of the video and look at the lines 30 secs into the video you will be able to tell we were racing and if ya'll still can't tell we were racing, then we will try to get another race with a RX-8 in the daytime and get it on video.

Video looked fine to me...stop bitching...good kill.
