vette window...sucks

hey, kinda new to this forume, but have a problem. I bought monogram model of a '95 Corvette ZR-1. Anyway, i opened it up and found something Ive never seen before. The top of the car and all windows are all one piece. He is a picture of another monogram ZR-1 model on ebay right now (excate same thing, just different year)

Bottom right corner. I need some advice on spray painting the top body color and the supports black(glossy) while the window will remain untouched. thanks

well, if it's a hard top, which I assum it is, why should the top part of the windows matter? You just glue it inside.

Tamiya masking tape, very easy to work with.

Don't worry too much about it. It's an elementally job.
Go get some quality masking tape, and mask the inside, and the window areas on the outside. Trim the tape at the border lines, then finish the painting as you normally do.

Alternatively, you can use liquid masking solution, or Baremetal Foil, depending on your preference. (I use Baremetal, because it's very thin.) Use a brand new blade when trimming the masking tape; you'll have a better control with a sharper knife.

Buy some Tamiya Masking tape.
Mask the windows, spray the roof your desired body colour, hand paint your supports gloss black with a good brush after the spray paint has dried completely.

Windows are some of the easiest things to mask - lay tape over the "glass" so that the tape is oversized, then run a pencil or felt-tipped pen along the groove where the glass meets the weather stripping, the contour should hold your marker in place. Then, very carefully and slowly with a brand new blade, trace the line (follow the groove) around the edge and cut away the excess. Marking the line not only made following the groove easier, but it also presed the tape down very well so that there won't be any bleed under. You will find many models in the future where you'll have to mask trim on the window itself, the Tamiya RX-7, and S800 come readilly to mind, though probably not your style.

I've built several of those kits, and I like them. While the construction is a bit different from the usual way car models go together, one of the most important things is to let the body paint fully dry and cure before assembly since you will be handling it a lot to build the car into the body.
If you want to paint the roof a light color to match the body, mask it as mentioned above and spray a light coat of silver or flat white as a base coat so you won't have to put so much paint on which could leave a thick ridge where the tape was. - Mark
