HUGE warning to 56K users! I say plan for coffee-break to load ONE of these pages. Also, make sure to free-up lots of RAM on your comp, to render these hundreds of hi-res pics.

They're looking at December now...but don't be surprised if they push it back again to improve on it some more.

Wow from what I can see so far this looks like its real cars on a tv not some game cars. This has got to be the best looking game that I've ever seen for the ps2. Are they going to add the online feature later on on gt4 or is it going to gt5 later on next year?

actually no it's not. they've removed the online capabilites cuz they're going to use it in the next upcoming Gran Turismo installment.

kinda bogus but it's still gonna be a great game.

You sound slightly upset... LOL. I actually laughed aloud when I read that.
Those screenshots are amazing, but without online capabilities, Jayson is right. Just another racing game.
I'm still buying it though!

"On the floor of the Tokyo Game Show this morning, Sony Computer Entertainment announced that it has finally pinned down a release date for Gran Turismo 4. Reported today through Reuters, the release news will see the game launched on December 3rd, 2004, in Japan and throughout Asia, with its North America debut on December 14th, 2004. This will reportedly be followed by a European debut soon after. Gran Turismo 4 is the latest in Sony’s racing simulation series. See the game’s official site for more.
GT4 online play:
GT4 goes offline for Christmas, online GT title coming in 2005
Polyphony Digital's long-awaited PS2 racing title Gran Turismo 4 is on track to meet worldwide release dates in early December - but at the cost of online play, which has been removed from the game.
At a press conference at the Tokyo Game Show today, Sony representatives confirmed that the game will launch in Japan on December 3rd, followed by a launch in the USA and Europe around December 14th (which probably means Friday December 17th in Europe).
However, the title will now be an offline game only, in a surprising move for the company - which had previously vaunted online play as being one of the key selling points for the new game.
The plan is now to launch Gran Turismo 4 with offline play this year, while a new Gran Turismo game with online play is provisionally scheduled for 2005 at some point. We don't know much about the new title as yet, although we'd speculate that it might be a budget-priced release, similar to the post-GT3 Gran Turismo Concept.
Strong rumours from within Sony and Polyphony Digital had suggested that online problems were the primary cause of the delay to Gran Turismo 4, with the team encountering serious difficulty in getting the online racing modes up to scratch.
It seems likely that Sony took a decision to simply drop that functionality entirely from the game in order to ensure that it hit its Christmas release date."

Three good racing games in three months...NFSU2, GT4, and Forza (for us Xbox people). I'm stoked, too bad I can't get GT4, my PS2 broke; probably from my excessive use of GT3.

probably not anymore cuz that would most likely require an online function. not to mention the only way to get your hands on the HDD is to buy it with FFXI for $100.

Negative, SCEA owns all rights to the Gran Turismo line which means it will never see the light of day on another platform.
And for those of you who havent said anything about the release date, it's December 14th. This date was released late last month.
...and NFSU2 releases November 16th.
...I can answer just about any questions about GT4.

They have expanded the modification section. They are not ignoring the import craze either. You can modify the body of say a Honda but not a Viper. Yet you cannot get too in depth with the modifying because of Data Limitations. More options=less cars and I'd rather have the variety of cars. This is why there is no damage factors on the game.

Gran Turismo surpasses ANY other game in replay value. There was 20 some cars in Underground compared to 680 in Gran Turismo 4. There are 50 tracks in GT4 (not including reverse) and that is FAR more than any other game.
To be completely honest, as much as you may like Underground, it could never shake a stick to GT4.
Basicly, GT3 was the test engine, and GT4 is the direct result.
