the water pump is one of the things you need to change in the 60k/120k tune-up. but i'm not sure if you can change the water pump without removing the timing belt. I kinda think you have to remove the timing belt to get to the water pump, can't remember. i'll find out and get back to you.
my current thought is YES, you must remove the water pump b/c its run by the timing belt. and you would have to compress the tension adjuster in a vise before you re-installed the timing belt.
in short, its gonna be a LOT of work just to change the water pump, so make sure that its cracked, and that's what you need to replace. so if you're gonna change the waterpump, you might as well change the timing belt and do any other parts of the 60k/120k tune-ups while your in there.
How many miles do you have on your car? Has the 60k or 120k service been performed? you should definitely look into this. and, obviously, you don't wanna drive with your water pump cracked, as you could and most likely will over-heat.
