Clutch check

Is there a way to check and see about how much of a clutch is left without dropping the tranny and actually looking at the disk it self?(this is a hydrolic clutch im asking about). I've hear you can be going like 20 miles and hour and put it in 4th gear, rev the engine up and dump the clutch to test for early slipping is this true? how safe is it to do? Does the tension of the clutch pedal help tell how worn or not a clutch disk is? Thanks for your help.

Since you have a hydraulic clutch it's a little tricky. First thing first, check and make sure that there is plenty of fluid in the clutch mastercylinder, should be right next to the brake m/c. If there is plenty in there see how much tension is on your pedal. There should be tension from top to bottom. If you have some here and none there, or vise versa then it's something in your hydraulic system, either the master cylender or the slave cylinder. If it's loose all the way down then it's probably a good sign that your clutch is about to go. But to be sure it's still not the hydraulics, put it up on jack stands and have a friend pump the clutch while you check to see if the slave cylinder is working.

So loose is Bad. hmm. Not quite sure what to say, my pedal is loose some days and tight other days. The mastercylinder is full of fluid, and the mastercylender is ban new(like 6 weeks), the slave isnt though but it was checked not to long ago, the mechanic that replaced the master said the slave would be fine so long as im not lossing fluid. im not sure how to handle this so if any one else has any idea's please let me know.
