Buick Regal Blinker Problems

I have a 91 Buick Regal. My blinkers to not blink, and sometimes will not light up. I have to hold the blinker either down or up to get them to blink, and sometimes I have to move the blinker arm up and down to simulate blinking. Could these be a problem with the contacts in the steering wheel column?

Thank you,

Kevin

By the sounds of it you need a new multifunction switch. I'm not sure how expensive those can be on your car but they CAN be expensive.

You can pick a blinker switch up at a pull it yourself salvage yard for $10-$15. I paid $12.70 for mine the day brfore yesterday.

My 91 regal has the same problem. If the steering wheel is turned to a certain position everything works fine. Even the steering wheel radio controls. I am thinking of a maybe a short in the steering column wiring. But I need my car daily and don't have time to tear it apart, so I live with the nucense.

on my 88 regal you have to pull back the turn signal switch a little bit when using the left signal for it to come on

Guys,

If you have the multifunction switch (wipers, blinkers, cruise, ...) it is the switch that is causing problems. I had the same problem with my 96 Regal. Switch costs $90 at the dealer (I would recommend getting new one) but the labor might be expensive as the steering wheel has to come off for the switch to be installed.

I greatly appreciate the insight. My 95 regal has a similar problem in that intially the cruise control would disengage when I made a left hand turn.
Now, the left hand turn disengages the brake lights. So it is an obvious short. Since I have been training as an electricians apprentice for the past several months, I feel confortable fixing the wiring (if possible).
But since I'm not a mechanic, how do I remove the steering wheel and is there anything special that I need to do so that I don't damage or prematurely engage the air bag?

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.
