I have a 92 integra GS with approx 85k miles. There is a strange noise coming from the front right side that sounds like chickens clucking. This happens when the car has parked for a few hours. The noise starts after I backup and turn the wheel and continues for a half mile or so. Then seems ok. Every so often the ABS light will come on and stay on until I stop driving for a day. Then it will be ok for a while. A mechanic at first thought maybe it was a cable but now thinks it could be the ABS pump. Any ideas? Would draining the brake fluid help?

Thank you!!

p.s. I just replaced water pump, timing belt, and the engine mounts. I can't keep putting money into this car and just need it to last a bit longer.

sounds like an axle or hub assembly problem... cuz there is all of that abs crap inside the hubs they are weird.

Hi,
Firstly, many thanks to you and acuralvr for your prompt responses. I told the mechanic about your suggestion but he seems to think it has to be the pump b/c if it was hub bearings the noise would continue all the time progressively getting worse. The ABS light is intermittant and the noise seems to appear when car is cold. (I hope I am explaining this right. I tried to take notes!). He is suggesting flushing the brake fluid as a stopgap measure b/c he says the ABS pump would be $1000 for the part alone!! I can't afford that and would like to know if you think flushing would help. In the alternative, is this "hub assembly" thing a big deal and major expense?

Thank you!!
