Does anyone know how to change out an ignition cylinder on a 1999 grand Am?

Please clarify what you mean by an ignition cylinder. I am not familiar with the term. Also it would be helpful to know what size engine and what the engine is doing so that we can give you some advice.

My car is a 99 grand am with a 3.4 v6. When I go to start the car the ignition wil not turn over its stuck. I have had this problem for 2 years and i have replaced the "ignition cylinder" 3 times but it keep on getting stuck after a few months of the repair. I guess the ignition cylinder is the part in the ignition that has the tumblers that lock the ignition.

That would be the dash mounted style for '99 right? It's pretty simple, you pull the plastic bezel that covers the radio and cylinder off, (no screws hold it in place, just clips). Then unbolt the radio and pull it out of the dash. There will be two bolts (I believe they're 10mm, or 7/16" bolts) that hold the cylinder in place. Once you loosen them off you can pull the cylinder out through the hole where the radio was mounted and unplug it from the ignition harness. You may need to get the computer reprogrammed after doing this so that Passlok II can recognize the value of the new Ignition switch. To reinstall it is the reverse of taking it out.
