I've been robbed

I brought my 98 Camaro v6 to "Tires Plus" because it was pulling a code 300 (Cylindar misfire) on the engine light. It had been running rough and needed some work.
The final bill was:
The bill was for parts:
41.94 for spark plugs
69.99 for an ignition wire set
21.99 for fuel filter
22.80 for "shop supplies"
Labor was
"Miscellaneous labor" including plugs and wires 195.99
R&R Cable Set, Ignition 144.00
Fuel Filter 40.00
So you can see, about $400 of the cost was in labor...for a glorified tune up!
I am not an auto expert...but can someone fill me in just how badly was I reamed. I argued about the price with the place but they had me over a barrel and knew it.
I am seriously considering taking this to Better Business Bureau

To tell you the truth I would learn real quick how to do regular maintance, These cars are not all that easy to work on do to the tight engine compartment and even though I do agree with you that You got raped like a 12 year old boy at the never land ranch but I looked into one time how much it was to change my spark plugs and a Godd Wrench dealer quoted me $300.00 for labor but I also have a LT1 and it was a dealer but those 3.8 are pretty hard to get to some of the parts also. I would invest $15 into a haynes or Chliton manual if I where you.

you werent ripped off. anyone who has done that work on those cars, and has had to bill people for it, will know that was a fair price. Modern day cars are a pain in the ass to work on, and the cost is made up in labor. sorry to tell ya, but if you dont want to pay someone else to do it, learn to do it yourself. but thats the cost of cars today. cest la vie.

dude, sorry to say it but you could have done all the work your self for about $100.00 total...I liked what was posted about a Chilton manual, so invest the $14.00 and roll up your sleeves. The only technical referrance I had was a Chilton's and this forum and I took my car from submarine status to road ready in three weeks. YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF!!!

i think that price was high............i did the wires and plugs in my sons 94 in less that an hour.....even at a top labor rate like 95 to 105 an hour you got spanked.......however they probably go by book rate............but i don't understand why they charged you 195 for plugs and wires labor.....then 144 to r&r the wires.......and 40 bucks to change the fuel filter.........i did my sons in 10 minuites on the ground........

no body said doing it yourself was a bad idea, i strongly support that idea, because no, its not that hard, but if you are going to pay someone to do it, your gonna pay alot, cest la vie.

when i needed to get a major tune-up i was getting quotes for about 500-600 dollars, well i ended up doing it myself and now i know why they charge so much it's a bitch, just do it yourself and trust me you'll feel good knowing you did all the work.

my 92's fuel pump only had 4 pounds of pressure, had to pay the guy 500 bucks to get it up and running again, and as far as the Chiltons goes, I can do my own spark plugs, change a tire and change my oil, but I cannot figure out how to get the last dang screw off of the heater blower motor cover thing......something doesn't sound right there does it?

hey chevyracincamaro, when was the last blower motor you did???? cuz that little bolt between the housing and the firewall is a bitch, ive had to get help with em before. one of the guys i worked with had a really weird spring extention for a 1/4 drive electric drill that he used to get up in there.
