1986 420 sel fuel problems

i need info on changing fuel filter and testing fuel pump, the car will only run for about 30 seconds when you dump gas down the carb.
i took the fuel line apart at the pump and got alot of gas running out,
so i had to put it back together. any sugestions?

My guess is your fuel pump relay is bad. You most likely have 2 fuel pumps in the vehicle in serial. you can run a jumper wire from under the hood's fuse box and connect it to a fuel pump. The car will run then. Just make sure you have the jumper hooked up to a "ignition" fuse and not a "battery" fuse or the pump will run all the time. Also, since this is temporary, if you just turn the key on the pump will run so only have the key on while engine is running.
