i hate to say this but if it is a heavy knock it might b the rod knock.. just had that in my 3000gt and had to get a used engine put in, hope its not that but does sound like wat happened to me, good luck tho man

well it is a pretty solid knock, that would suck if it is the rod though. the oil that is currentley in there now is 10w-30 i was thinking about using 10w-40 just to see.. but i'm not sure. Man i hope its not the rod...

the book calls for 20w50! that could definately be the problem, you arent ever suppose to use an oil with a hot viscosity rating lower than the stock specs call for. In other words 20 should be the first number, no less! And no more than 50 for the second number. A single weight oil would be fine but it should be between 20 and 50 like a 30w or a 40w. Change the oil, put some castrol 20w50 high mileage in there and get a nice oil filter, let the car idle for about 15mins and take it for a nice easy drivew and see how it sounds.

Oh my god. People, please just read the manual if you don't know something. People neglect the engine like that and then wonder what happened when they need a new engine. 5 Minutes can save you 5 grand.

If you let the oil go low and you're hearing a "knocking" sound, you could be getting ready to spin a bearing too. I upgraded my turbo and the bolts kept coming loose and leaking out all the oil. Mine went too low and I started hearing this "knocking" sound around 3g and it ended up being a spun bearing. Hopefully this isn't it, but to me it sounds like a rod knocking.

ok first off partizan if you read the first post it stated that i just baught the car, from some guy. Therefore i had to go buy a manual. But now i'm not that worried about it no more, because i just got through talking to a guy who would sell me a 4g63 (engine) for $300 with everything. Not bad... I think. So I would like to say thank you to everyone for your help.

You have a 1.8 engine and you're buying a 2.0 to put in it? It's not as easy to switch them as just taking one out and installing the other. You know that right?

I like my 1.8, they are the closest thing to indestructable that there is! They are non interfierence motors, so if the timing belt goes its no biggie. I had one spin a balance shaft bearing at over 200,000 miles which sucked but there was almost no cylider wear and everything looked wonderful other than that one bearing. Im in the process of turbocharging mine right now, IMO thats alot easier than doin a swap. Of course it all takes work.

If you do put that 2.0 in your car, you better change the timing belt first, i have seen them go in under 60,000 miles.

I had a 1.8 and it crank walked on me REAL BAD... :naughty: Highly unlikely, but yet, it happens. Especially to someone like me. :sly:
