Cool deal man - that looks like a nice set as well.

Is that a nose badge or is it like mine from the rear grille? Also, do you know which car it came off of and why?

Nice purchase F1LM. Both you and Peloton seemed to be at the right place at the right time. Those badges look to be cloissone.

I managed to get my hands on the following a while back:
- 2 gear shafts
- 3 gears
- 4 GTR Magnesium alloy wheels 2 - 18x11 front and 2 - 18x13 rear painted in Gulf orange, purchased piece by piece. 1 signed by Sekiya, the other I have pics of the wheel being dragged into the pits by a Gulf car.
- 1 Aluminum alloy wheel nut from McLaren team (also have 1 from Porsche GT1)
- 2 suspension arms
- 3 carbon rotors
- Davidoff/GTC pit crew suit (actually fits me too) made by Stand 21
- F1 logo pin

that is some cool shizzle!!!
how much did you pay for all of that?
mustve been loads!!!
i remember seeing a wheel that was advertised as a coffee table, is that one of the four you have purchased?

i have a few more bits on the way....

will post more info when they arrive!

does anyone know??? if all the driving ambition books have the steering wheel on the hardcover??? (underneathe the protective cover) or is this only on the limited edition???

if so, how can i tell the difference???

also, does anyone know of that F1GT press folder i was going on about earier? any pics?

Peloton25

All the "Driving Ambition"s have the steering wheel embossed on the cover. The Limited Edition versions of the book come in a box - like a nice decorative one from what I recall, and the Owner's Edition of the book is actually bound in leather I believe. The Limited Edition versions also have something like 400pgs to the standard books 272pgs. (I think those numbers are accurate)

The wheel nut and suspension arms are cool.

The gears are interesting because they are straight cut. That's what gives them their 'audible' charm. :D

Mind if I ask what you paid for the wheels? I've wanted one, but wouldn't know what something like that goes for. The few times I have seen them offered on Ebay was not very confidence inspiring from a buyer's perspective so I didn't bid.

Are they all the orange Gulf color? Also, are they the OZ Chrono style, or multispokes more like the Superturismo?

I was going to go for one of them! The last time (and the only time so far.....) i saw one of those, was when i first started collecting McLaren Stuff. (the guy advertised it as a coffee table or something) and yes!! it is a wheel i am talking about!!!
It was already on way too much for me to bid, (i cant remember exactly, but it was wayyyy toooo much at the time)

I still havent had any replies about the F1 GT Press folder???
Anyone know anything about it???

chek this pic of my '97 F1 GTR LongTail Press Folder

Your image link isn't working for me. Go back to that page, right-click on the image and select "Properties". Then copy the "URL" from the 'http:// all the way to the .jpg' and paste it between "" & "" (leaving out the quotation marks) here on the forum. That should work to embed your image into your post.

As for an F1 GT Press Kit or Press folder, I'm not sure that a separate one exists. I think they may have only done the brochure for the F1 GT.

You guys would have died if you saw the auction that ended quite low in Ebay Germany this summer.
It was a complete muffler and exhaust system for a GTR!
Ended at 150 Euro!!
I'm not getting the kink to work anymore now because of Ebay 90day on file policy.
I'm sure you guys would have loved it!
By the way Peloton, remember a long time ago I referred to a "source" I had?
I'm sure he has some interesting stuff that would rock your world:-)

Wow - I missed out on that one. :(

The carbon air intake recently was sold again - still about $2500 cheaper than what the part itself would probably cost.

Almost Thorst.. almost. Funny you say that, because all my coworkers joked that I was building a Mclaren piece by piece. Missed out on a Carbon Fiber GTR seat when I was first collecting these items. They wanted 1100 British Pounds. Then I'd have to pay to have it shipped across the pond. Also missed out on a front clip, wing side plate, exhaust headers from one side.

Here are pics of 2 of the rear wheels and 1 of the front. There is a photograph in Michael Cotton's book of the Gulf McLaren GTR with the broken wheel as it came into the pits.

http://www.supratech.org/McLaren/tn-McLarenWheels0001.jpg (http://www.supratech.org/McLaren/McLarenWheels0001.jpg)

http://www.supratech.org/McLaren/tn-McLarenWheels0002.jpg (http://www.supratech.org/McLaren/McLarenWheels0002.jpg)

The front is a later 96 design with the vent holes in the center. You can barely make out the GTR logo on the upper left spoke:
http://www.supratech.org/McLaren/tn-McLarenWheels0003.jpg (http://www.supratech.org/McLaren/McLarenWheels0003.jpg)

I do have a rear wheel from the Riley & Scott WSC car which is actually the same wheel from the 97 GTRs. This cost about $90 US.

The Gulf wheels have been around 90 - 175 British Pounds.

I really wanted that carbon intake. Would have paid much more for it. Too bad they don't post on USA ebay.

Most of my pieces have been purchased from Simon Lewis Garage based in England. He had all the parts I mentioned above when I first started purchasing from him. Really nice chap. Fast shipping. Couldn't ask for more from a seller.

Only purchased 1 wheel from another person on Ebay. There is multispoke floating around in Europe that is from the 97 GTR that caught fire. (It has some burnt carbon fiber on it.) Not sure if came off the one that caught fire at LeMans or not.

If you have a source for McLaren parts, let me know.

F1:

For me, it's to actually own a piece of automotive history. And the McLaren has certainly made numerous marks in automotive history. I work in the aftermarket and have been associated with a couple of race teams both professional and club racing, henceforth the race parts appeal to me.

I think I can safely say that 99% of us can't afford the entire car so the little bits that we can get gets us a little closer.

I think we all appreciate the intricacies and aura of the memorabilia.

As for the pedal set, if you can imagine having them mounted between two plates of glass framed in a "floating" display hung on the wall, it is a site to be seen, especially when surrounded by other automotive memorabilia. It's a great conversation starter.

Pedal set went for £501 and sadly I wasn't the winner. I don't think ArchangelGTR was either.

The Ebay ID was wardygb, and he's not a suprising winner. I see him buying up some of the more special McLaren items as well as offering some of his own from time to time.

I think I'll send him a note of congratulations.
