Greetings,
I am in the process of replacing the head gasket on my 97 Cav., 2.2L. In addition to having the heads shaved, do you guys have any tips/suggestions to help ease my pain during the rebuild?

1. Be sure that you need to shave the head.
2. Install the intake manifold onto the head before you reinstall the head, this will save you a lot of trouble.
3. For an extra $20 I would replace the crank position sensor and the oil sending unit. If these ever fail they will shut down the car. With the head off it only take a couple of minutes to change both.
4. Go slow and have fun. Good Luck.

Thanks for the advice.
I looked in my handy dandy Chilton's manual, but could not see where either part is located. If I knew where there were, I would change them.

When you get the head off. Look down on the back of the motor. Oil sending unit is center upper block, Crank sensor is center lower block. Nothing else back there except the module and coils. The Oil unit screws with a large wrench or special socket. The Crank sensor has a single bolt and a little bracket. You undo the bolt and the bracket comes off, then use a flat screwdriver to lever it out. If you get the replacements you can look at them first to see what they look like.
