1997 Monte Carlo won't start

Immediately after replacing my water pump and subsequently refilling the cooling system, I tried to start my car and it wouldn't start.

I turned the key, heard one click, but the engine would not turn. All interior and exterior lights are bright, the radio works well, so it seems the battery is working well.

I'm not sure if replacing the water pump would cause this to happen, or it is just coincidence, don't think it would affect it. I put the old water pump back on and the same thing happened. My car is out of commision at this point.

Could someone please help? Is the starter maybe bad??

Well, I removed the starter and took it to the auto parts store to check. It was functioning properly.

Any other clues???

check the battery cables and grounds for corrosion.

Checked for corrosion, found some on the positive battery cable at the connection to the battery. I cleaned it off and still didn't work. I then removed the battery, took it to the auto parts store for them to check it. It said the battery was good, but low charge, so I had them charge it.

I then picked it up an hour later and reconnected it. The car would crank, but really, really slow.

I then put my dad's battery charger on it, intending to slow charge overnight. Just to see what would happen, I tried to jump the car with the battery charger. It turned a little faster, almost to the point where it seemed it would start.

I then decided to jump the car with my rental car (this would not work before I removed the baterry). After a minute or so of cranking, it finally started. It died immediately, but after a few more attempts, I got the car to stay on. Turned it on and off a few more times to make sure it would work.

Hopefully tonight, the thing will still start.

I do plan on replacing the battery just to be cautious.

The only thing weird is the car is running a little hot and seems to "put" a little when idle. I did just replace the water pumpl, so hopefully the car is working thru the new pump and cycling the new coolant thru the system.

I do thank those who replied for the help. It seems I'm back in business.
