Hi all,

The serpentine belt on my 1993 Oldsmobile Achieva (2.3 SOHC I-4) has frayed and needs to be replaced. However, I do not have my manual and the diagram under the hood has worn out. I do not know how to proceed and I can't get my wrench between the engine and the wall. Please help as I need to fix this as soon as possible.

I purchased a serpentine belt tool from Sears for about 20 bucks. It will get the job done. I would invest in a Chilton's or Hayes Manual, or both. That should supply the diagram you need. The book will probably be in the $15.00 range. Better than paying the mechanic $60.00 bucks to do it.

i actually found out that the pulley attached to the alternator is wobbling very slightly. This is causing a portion of the side of the belt to fray off. However it is running fine and there doesnt seem to be anymore fraying. Is this safe to drive? or do i have to replace the alternator?

you need to get that pulley repaired or replaced now already. it could fly off and do alot of damage. ,maybe even hurt someone. also it could go out on you on a dark night on a lonely road. get it fixed now.
