i recently saw a 1996 ford mustang at a car lot the sticker said it was a mustang svt now it has 17 inch svt rims, it has cobra on the front brake calibers and it has a svt badge on the rear of the car but it also has mustang gt on the rear where cobra should be and a 4.6 litre mustang gt badge on each side. I am confused is this a cobra or a gt oh it also has the gt fog lamp but no lights in the foglamp wells the car is also a automatic shouldn't it be a manual sorry new to mustangs hope someone can help.

The only way to know what the car is, is by popping the hood and taking a look at the engine. The car your looking at, is a automatic Mustang GT with cobra wheels, front cobra disc brakes and a couple of badges. Cobras don't come in automatic.

The Cobra 4.6 is a DOHC engine with very wide and obvious silver-colored valve covers. The GT 4.6 is a SOHC engine with black, narrower valve coves. The DOHC engines looks like a big hemi sitting in there (wish it was a 426 hemi). And, like noted above, it does NOT come stock with an automatic although some have converted to them - rare though.
