I have a 93 thunderbird and when i step on it, it just revs up and no acceleration, i have to just feather the gas to accelerate, it stops accelerating at about 2500-3000 RPMS, its an automatic, and it's so frustrating, plz help :banghead:

does it feel like it misfires?? cuz could be spark plugs

could also be an exhaust leak u give it gas and its like the car doesnt want it

i think those two are a good place to start

sounds like a slipping torque converter, its expensive to fix.

Check your transmission fluid. The level as well as the color. To check the level, while your car is running, put your parking break on and put the car into neutral. Then check the level. (Hence it can't be done while the car is in park and or not running) If the fluid is low, add some. Just realize, the transmission fluid is supposed to be in a closed system, it its low, you are leaking it somewhere. Another thing to check is the fluid color, it should be a deep, clear red. If its brown or blackened there could be internal damage to the transmission. My guesses would be the following:

Low fluid, from a leak. Most likely torque converter or front seal. If the fluid is low, after you fill it up, look under the car while its running. See if you can see if there is any fluid dripping.

Adjustable bands- I believe your tranny to have adjustable bands, these control the shifting through the transmission. After a while these wear out, when they do the transmission slips. (especially while it tries to shift gears)

If you're not too fond of turning a wrench I would just recommend you take the car to the nearest transmission shop and have them take care of it. Best of luck and I hope for the best! (And least inexpensive ;) )

Rebuild the transmission. Period.

The torque converter is not likely the problem. Your transmission is not fully engaging the clutches due to one of many problems, but most likely a lack of pressure. It could be a vacuum problem, a pump problem, or a valve body problem.

Expect to pay $400 for a good rebuild, more if you don't remove it yourself. Take it to a chain like Aamco and get an estimate. They are better experts than I am and can give you better advice.

it could just be a bad wheel speed sensor. Those same symptoms happened to my friend while we were on the highway. We left a toll botth and the car would't go anywhere. Should be a cheap fix. P4ray that it is this and nothing else. Go to a reputable shop and ask them, just don't hack it up yourself.

well a reputible shop is like 4 hours away, haha, i live in a small town in the middle of no where, Ely Nevada, any one know where that is. haha, but our pop is so low, our high school is like 450 maybe haha, but i'll take it to one here and ask them, not likely to fix it tho, maybe

wheel speed sensor fucking with the tranny???
Not likely.
Bad tranny? Probably.
Low fluid? Could be.
Tranny flush/fill performed by morons? Likely.

I agree with Pscho, Change the tranny Filter and get another transmission Fluid exchange.
