Well you can find all this info in the sticky posted at the top of the Forum....but ill tell you what I know.
GS-GrandSport
RS-RalliSport
GS-Power Everything
RS-Power Nothing
GS-Factory bodykit
RS-No bodykit
GS-Better factory wheels
RS-Crappy factory wheels
GS-Heavier than RS
RS-Lighter than GS
GS-420a motor}
|-> Same Motor
RS-420a motor}
GS-Fog Lights
RS-No Fog Lights
What I am saying is the RS is just a toned down GS....and the GS is just and RS with some bell and whistles. (Someone correct me if im wrong) So there ya go.
As for getting a 96-99 in good condition for UNDER $3k...its possible but if you throw in another $1-$2k thats where most of the 96-97s in moderate condition, and fairly low miles are priced around.
And it dosen't matter what year between '96-99 you get, because I don't think there are many (if any) diffrence between those 3 years.
Oh yah, and insurance should be about the same for both, but you can just get a quote to be sure.

There is an edit button for something.
lol, ya the rs and gs are basically the same car, just that the gs has more options. (ie. power windows, locks, sunroof, better wheels, foglights)

ok i have had a rs, gs, and gs-t(i like dsm's alot) my rs had power everything crapy stock radio and had a sunroof(sc) no leather and crapy rims this was a 97 with 70,000ish miles on it and we got it for 3 grand. My gs was a 99 with 50,000ish miles on it and it came with the same motor leather sunroof, and a better radio. my gs was a a-12 package wich is a gs with oz rims modled after the gsx rims and the turbo wing, and white face gauges

Basically what everyone is saying is right...RS is the bottom of the line, but you do find them out there with the upgraded options. Some people could have ordered them that way and some came that way. Just like any other car, some they put different upgraded options on there and adjust the price accordingly.

mines an rs...im trying to turn it into a gs and eventually a gs-t....mine has power windows no sun roof and no leather...i put in fog lights and a better sound system...probably doing leather seats around christmas whether it be racing seats or rehapolstering mine....if you can find one in your price range in good condition definately go for a turbo
