In-cabin Microfilter install

I was wondering if any of you have installed the Nissan Filters for the A/C unit? Any feedback on its effectivity? I just did mine and it took about 15 minutes total time! The directions for mine were for the Frontier? The A/C unit is the same behind the glove box, but the glove box door and panel comes off with six screws. I know we suck a lot of dust up here on the trail in the summertime!!! So maybe this will help aleviate the problem. Maybe it'll keep me from doing the "Sneeze, Honk!" I'll replace it this fall when we are done wheeling for the year and see how dirty it got!!!

I replace them every 6 months. They get dirty.

Uhh? Second question? Did anyones truck come equipped with them from the factory, or did you put it in?

I have always thought you had to put them in yourself - at least I did.

Is that the in cabin micro filter?:confused:

I'm not sure about earlier models, but in the '02 its a dealer option.

I belive they've always been an option. I had the dealership install my first one, so they could do the cutting.

These things rock! 6 months of use and it will be black with shit. You'll be amazed how much cleaner the cab of the X stays with one of these things installed.

I installed one in mine probably close to a year ago. I just ordered another one to replace it. I pull it out every couple months and try to clean it up. It does make a huge differance in the amount of dust inside the cabin.

What's the cheapest price you guys have found? The dealer up the street has them for $29.95. www.nissanparts.cc (they call it an A/C Filter Kit) has them for $26.21 + $6.00 to ship it.

Yup, that is where I get all my factory Nissan parts.

Toejam you mentioned cutting ??. Do you need to cut anything to install?. I am sure my G/F would like them as she is tired cleaning the truck every week :cool:

After lightly tapping the filter on paper towels. After other people saw how clean my truck was inside after wheeling I installed a couple other for members of AZXC.

Has anyone installed one in a 2000 model? I inquired with the dealer and he made it sound as though it wasn't even an option. Also, if it can be done could someone give some details on the cutting that was mentioned?

It certainly can be done on a 2000 model. I just did mine two weeks ago. Simple procedure. The only thing that needs to be cut is a slot (you'll see it in the instructions for the filters). Just remove your glove box (for access-4 screws if I remember correctly), cut that out with a sharp X-acto or box-cutter type knife per the instructions, slide the filters in, re-attach you glove box, and you're off and running. I would order the filter from xterraparts.com. The Dealer may try and jack you for the cost of the filters. Xterraparts.has good prices on the dealer available things. (Filters should run you around $30 or so.)

Yes, you can. And if the dealer is giving you that line, I would be warry of their other "advice" or "recommendations" for repairs.

I've had one in my 2000 since the day I drove it home. It was the first thing that I did to it. My dealer knew about it and had the filter in stock.

I also agree with Schlud, that if the dealer is that stupid,,,,, beware!

When I purchased my xterra there were over 30 on the lot and every one had an in cabin microfilter.

I guess I should change it, it has been 14 months. I always wondered where the damn thing was. Never did take the glove box out to see if it was back there.
