well.... it happened.... transmission #2, clutch #3 and maybe axel#1 now

driving down the road today in 2nd, theres this chick in an acura integra infront of me going slow, so i pull out and put it to the floor and pass her, i'm doing 80 at ~6000 rpm in 2nd, shift to 3rd and thats when all hell broke loose, the car just stayed at 80, and wouldnt go any faster. i hit the gas and it just revved up. so i fly into a parking lot because it was clear and park the car, hit the e-brake and try again, put it in 1st and let the clutch out...... no dice, just revs so i get out, pop the hood while its still in gear and didnt really notice anything so i put it in 3rd so it thinks its driving faster. look at the driverside axel and its moving up and down and side to side as its running. hmmm did i shear the splines off the axel or tranny?? also. i can put it into any gear i wish without hitting the clutch..... WHILE ITS RUNNING!! :banghead: so i'm thinking i blew out the synchros for everygear, and that the clutch is messed as well... also, after this happened when i pulled it into the parking lot it wouldnt move over to engage 5th or reverse at all.... my other thinking is "aww crap, theres diff #2 that blew out on me" but the back of the trannys fine and intact. it didnt blow out like on my old dx tranny. so maybe its something internal in the tranny only?? could my clutch be fine??

what are ur guys thoughts on this???

should i upgrade to an Si tranny? can the DX tranny no handle the power of a DOHC ZC??? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

i've been trying to find one but i can only get ahold of an 88 and it wont work with my clutch and axels. started taking it apart today tho and pulled the driverside axel out and all i heard was, clunk... the sound of a gear falling :( thats diff #2 that i've blown up

88 dx/si trannys work with any axle from a 88-91 dx/si. its the STD's that have a different axle spline count.

^^ says that 88's have differnt axels and such- doesnt say anything about it just being the std though.

so can i
my 89 axels worked with that 88 tranny

my dad took it out and said the tranny feels good tho, no clutch slippage or anything.

i thought the si and dx trannys were the same except for 5th gear?

TheSilentChamber
10-24-2004, 10:26 PM
si's are geared higher I think

GTA

nope. only diffence in gearing is the Final drive. all other ratios are the same.
