possible blown head gasket?

ok...so my oil light starts blinking and i check the oil...no oil...compleatly dry....ive noticed small oil drops under my car after i park for longer periods of time and today i started lookin around on the car...there is a small oil puddle bigger than a quarter but smaller than a 50 cent piece under the hood on the right of where the head gasket is....blown head gasket??? any one know??? (97 non turbo with 92k miles)

dont assume headgasket. im guessing that you actually have a valve cover leak and think its where your head is. that or the oil dropped down to there. can you post a pic?

update...it was time for an oil change so i took it up to a mech so i could get it up on a lift and i asked to go in the garage and look....its not the head gasket thankfully...its a blown oil pan gasket...anybody else had to replace this? how much did it cost you if you took it to a shop
