Sterio questions... I'm kinda bugged

I'm new here, but I've looked through the posts and didn't really see this question, so I'm posting up:

I've been wanting to put my Kenwood MP3 player in my truck, but I've heard that I can't remove the stock sterio without messing stuff up. What's the deal with the sterio systems in the '03+ vehicles? I've heard that door chimes, and airbags don't work if you remove the sterio, and SES lights come on. This all sounds rediculous to me. I had one guy tell me that the airbag thing was bogus, but that if I remove the sterio, the door chimes won't work, and i could get sued if someone else wrecked the vehicle, and wasn't wearing a seatbelt... because the chime was inoperative. Sounds rediculous to me.

I know they have adapters to fix this, but they are like $100 and that's a bit much for something so stupid.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks

It is true that the door chime will not work, the airbags will work though. If you go to any stereo shop like Circuit City or Best Buy and ask for the GMRC1 they will have it. This harness will cost around $50, but you will have door chimes, the SES light will NOT come on, your airbags WILL work and you can put virtually any stereo in your truck. I have a 04 with an aftermarket radio, i have this harness and everything works fine. That is the cheapest harness I know of. Anymore questions just ask. I install stereos professionally and my roomate is a service writer at a Chevy dealership.

Sweet, thanks for the Info! I'm off to Circuit City tomorrow to pick it up!

Any tips on fitting some 10" subs behind the seats? I've got the '03 crew cab (long bed... makes for a looooooonnng truck!)

I'm thinking about building my own box... because I want to build a niche into it where the amp can sit.

Thanks a ton for the help!
