yes, you must use premium fuel. the chip makes power by controlling timing and fuel curves. those timing and fuel curves are set with premium fuel. 93 octane will burn cooler and slower and 87 octane will burn hotter and faster. if your timing is set for 93 octane and you put 87 octane in there, you will experience detonation and damage can occur. too understand it better i will give an example. if your running 87 octane your computer adjusts the timing to 10 degrees before tdc at idle. if you run 93, your computer is going to have to advance the timing more to about 12 degrees btdc because the fuel burns slower.

I would scrap the chip.

If you are worrying about money, why are you using a chip that dumps in more fuel and ruins your fuel economy.

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Do you want economy or do you want power?

Choose.....

Don't come back here whining because your fuel economy is bad.

Too bad you can't handle the truth and there was nothing dumbass about my post, everything is completely true and you just don't want to hear it.

Ok, before you TRY to slam me, how about you practise these small mature rules:

1.) Start sentences with a capital letter on the first word.
2.) Learn how to type.
3.) Learn how to use proper grammer.
4.) Using the word dumbass all the time does not get your point across, it actually makes you look like a teenage child which I am pretty sure you are.

kthxdie

holy crap to know all that you must have a PHD i'll have to use your tips sometime how long did that take you to type out anyway prob awhile for a narrow minded brick like yourself. and one more thing just because you don't know the answer to a question (and i'm sure thats why you had to write the things about money) dosen't mean you still have to answer them. thank you.

2.) Learn how to type.

dumps in more fuel?

where do you get this stuff?

the air/fuel ratio remains at 14.7/1, the only thing that is changed is the timing. with the use of premium fuel, the ignition timing can be advanced to when the piston is even closer to TDC and is more compressed (making more power) with less risk of pre-detonation.

wondering if you know anything about throttle body spacer and if it would help my 96 jimmy with somemore power?

throttle spacers will give you a small gain. not enough gain to purchase one.

thanks i think i'll save my money then any other ideas for some bolt on power? i'm just kinda bored and can't do any real big projects right now cause i had knee surgery a month ago and its going to be a while till it heals up.

What bolt ons do is not so much add horsepower, but unlock in in efficiencies sucking the stock power from you engine.

The proven ones that give gains are:

Cold Air intake
Performance Muffler
UnderDrive pullies for your alternator and crank.
Synthetic lubricants in your engine, transmission, transfer case and differentials.

These all together will unlock about 10-15hp total which will result in better fuel economy as well.

thanks, i've done the cold air and muffler i'll try the pullies thanks for the help

Also remember the synthetic lubricants.
