I tried drawing the front end of a roadster from a photo I took at the local car show. I used only Illustrator CS. Experimented with scribble for the air filters, copy and paste for each tread knobby, blends re: the radiator grill, and layers of gradients. Obviously, not completed, nor will I finish it. I left a lot in a more-transparent layer intentionally. Too much time spent on this. CC's welcome. Thanks, Robo

I tried correcting the spelling of "drawing" in the subject line, but can't do it through edit. Do I have to delete the entire post to correct it?

ww667... I did do it in pencil first, then used Illustrator to trace over and straighten lines, etc... way too much time expended trying new things. Robo

he hee yea tracing love that thing ;)
But if you want to go digital try hend photoshop.
or better go 3ds max.
max will take you a while to master but when you do it is just so awsome ;)
By the way version 7 is about to be availble for general public ;)

Thanks to all for the cc's. Re: the spokes... what a tedious job... the grill was fun because of the attempt to blend in specific steps... I'm still trying to figure out how to use photoshop to colorize... I think that if I only do simple line art and only a few layers at a time, I can do it.

Leemorris... I copied your tutorial and am working on learning channels... thanks to all. I truly enjoy looking at all the fine art submitted by you guys and gals... it inspires this old guy! Mike and Alex... thanks.

Robo, that looks great, maybe one day I can do something like that.

How did you do the intake filters (ribs)?
I really like the rad. How did you do that?

Thx

Great job! I love how you did the grill, looks real. Like asaenz I want to know how you did it. Shame you couldn't finish it but like you said it must have taken ages.

thanks for the comments.. Al & Ra15.. I did the radiator (in Illustrator) by outlining the radiator shell, then using the line tool, placing a diagonal line near the center and a smaller line near the corner, then using the blending tool (in specific steps). Once done, I copied it and inversed it for the lower diagonal portion. The copied the entire grill and rotated it 90 degrees and placed it under the original grill. It's all about my trial and error... more trial, less error. Robo
