K&N Filter

Anyone know if or when K&N will make air filters for the 2000 g20? I been looking around, and I can only find them up to the year 95 or 96. I also heard someone say that our filters are the same as in the se-r. Is that true? If so then whats the latest year that they make k&n filters for the se-r?

k&n has a drop-in filter for your car and all p11's, check here http://www.knfilters.com/appinq.htm do a search and it should pull up the part number HP-1008 good luck :flash:

oops my bad, wrong part number, try typing in 1999 or 2001 instead of 2000, it should give you the part number 33-2031-2, thats one the one you want ;)

Are you 100% sure that the 33-2031-2 filter will fit the year 2000 models?

if you aren't totally sure,
just drive your g down to local kragen and pop out stock air filter.
take it inside to compare with the k&n.
piece of cake.

Oh ok cool. Now...is the K&N filter worth getting? I heard the good stuff about it, but is there noticable increases in performance or anything like that? Also all that cleaning sounds time consuming...or is it not? Thanks

koojo,
check this llink out
Cleaning an Air Filter (http://www.knfilters.com/clningins.htm)
I just got my K&N at lunch today, so I don't know what it's really like, but can't be too bad, right?
Anyone actually cleaned/re-oiled one before?
How long?...I'm guessing 10-15 minutes.

Koojo ..cleaning is a piece of cake ..takes about 30 minutes to do ..but most of that is waiting for the cleaner agent to clean the filter. then its a simple rinse and reoil. Baddabing.

Ya i guess cleaning is alright. Do you have to wait for it to dry? If ya then i'd probably pop in my stock filter and drive around for a few hours on that until the k&n dries. But is the whole thing worth getting though?

i installed mine last night, and noticed immediate improvements.
acceleration is quite a bit quicker.
I don't know how much of that is in my head, and how much real
(damn, I need a dyno installed at my house)
I figure it's worth getting one,
cause:
a. the K&N should last 1.000.000 miles, no buying new ones, ever.
b. it's super easy...no tools at all.
c. saving the environment...less filters in landfills...awww, how nice
d. The MOST inportant reason, of course, is the Sticker!
we all know that the more obviously visible the sticker is, the more hp!
oh yeah- i think you should let it air dry before oiling it.

Hahaha they give you a sticker to put inside the hood somewhere to show off to people? What a deal...hahaha. It all sounds good....I just need to go out and actually find one..oh by the way dre, what did you pay for yours?
dre

actually you get two stickers.
one that says 'stop, don't remove this air cleaner' so the mechanic doesn't throw your $40 filter away,
and a regular K&N sticker.
I think it was a little over $40, then tax etc....about 45-50 bucks.
yeah, it's alot for just a filter, but if you plan on having the car for a while, it should pay for itself.
take care.

no, it's just the stock filter replacement.
you don't change any parts, just the filter.
Kragen carries them, or go to knfilters.com (http://www.knfilters.com) and find a dealer near you

I've never used 'drop in' airfilters, only cone type. do you just drop in the K&N (a straight swap with stock) and clamp down the intake assembly..that's it? or do you drop in the airfilter and then leave the K&N side open for a more direct intake simulating a cone type?
man, I am confused. this sounds too easy...and you felt more HP just from a straight stock to K&N swap? kinda skeptical.
thanx guys. :D

ken.. its just like replacing your OEM air filter, but its made by K&N, you dont do anything different...
as far as feeling more hp.. i really dont think that'd happen.. even when you swap to a POP Charger you only get a 1 to 3hp gain, and you dont really notice that the car is faster... just louder. so the K&N drop in probably has little to no effect since its still in the stock air box and does not see anywhere near as much air as a POP charger/Intake...
a lot of people seem to think the louder thier car gets, the faster it is!!

i mean.. dont get me wrong.. the K&N is probably a better filter than the OEM and breathes better and lasts longer.
however if you're looking to make power, i would look into replacing the stock air box w/ an intake system

i thought I felt a little something as soon as i dropped it in, but who knows. it might all be psychlololg...in my head.....
or, I am just that much more aware of every tenth of a horsepower in my car...so there.:silly2:
But, you are still saving landfills with a washable filter, so you can tell chicks.."Look, I care. No dolphins are gonna get my filter wrapped around their tail...." awww...how cute

I dont really care about the dolphins, but I got my 33-2031-2 for my 2001 today. :D $48 total including tax at AutoZone.
Gonna pop it in when I get off work. any tricks or anything I should watch out for? these filters go into a tray that is installed vertically into the intake?
btw, this is from another thread, but do you guys know any "not too loud" aftermarket mufflers for a P11? I just need an axle back....
thanx.

yep, just to let you guys know, the K&N filter fit perfectly into my 2001 P11. I was glad I decided to do this mod as one of the 4 airfilter clips were not attached! damn oilchange place at Infiniti. this was at the Motorwerks of Barrington, IL. ass holes.
anyway, the K&N made absolutely no difference to my P11's performance... hahaha. :D but figure I just saved about 5 dolphins.

Kenchan,
The 33-2031-2 filter, is that a drop in or cone filter? I was told that the drop in filter does not really gain any hp. Just that you don’t have to keep replacing the filter….all you have to do is wash it. Also, it doesn’t make that loud sucking sound as you would find in a cone.
I was interested in buy the cone filter but don’t know the part number for it. Do you know what it would be?
Thanks in advance

dchien - yep got the drop in filter. not too much gain what so ever, but my other cars have K&N gear, so....why not? :D
I'm not sure of the p/no for the cone filter. might want to find out the diameter on the intake and try to find something that'll fit....or I think you'll have to get the entire intake for it..but the thing with that, wouldn't the cone be sucking too close from the heat source? you may not notice any gains either. ...just more noise.
not sure... anyone?

the "cone type" filter which is what comes on an intake/pop charger.. (whichever) is close to the heat source but still sees around 4 hp at the wheels... go with the JWT..

bboogie- 4hp at the wheels ain't bad at all. btw, I think it was g-forces that mentioned something about the intakes not fitting 2001's or something... not sure which model that was. do you know?
dchien - what year G20 do you have? might wanna check that before getting the intake.

ken,
the 99 intakes/pop chargers wont fit the 2000+ models
for the 2000 they changed the MAFs, but have stayed the same for the 2001 and 2002...
i believe i heard that the 2000+ G20's have the same intake system/maf as the new sentra se-r

b-boogie and kenchan,
thanks for the quick reply. i have a 99 g20. I remember someone putting on a cone filter without a pop charger and noticed a gain. i think it was dprotech. but i wasn't sure about the part number. so i thought that you guys were doing the same with cone filter.
i don't want to put the pop charger on because i heard there isn't really that much difference in gain. i don't know...what do you think guys? the pop charger with adapter was like $120 at jwt. and the filter itself is less than $50 i think. so i thought forget the pop charger. i figured if i don't notice the dif than i will install the pop. i also got a CAI laying around here somewhere...just that it's made for a civic ( i think). maybe i can force it to fit some how.
regardless, thanks for your input...and other input is greatly appreciated.

First of all....what's a pop charger? If you want to install an intake for a car, do you just take off the stock box filter, the tube that goes to the box, and replace it with the intakes' and cone filter? I heard someone say it will mess up the autoclimate inside the car because of the sensors where the tube goes into.
Is there an cone filter and a tube thats made for the year 2000 g's? Cant you just buy one, and then bend the tube somehow and make it fit into the opening where the stock tube was?

dchein, the jwt type is better because the airflow is smoother entering the MAF.. the pop charger has an adapter that has a smooth transition into the MAF.. if you get just a cone filter w/ a nissan "filter adapter" its not the same story. its just a cheesy bracket that the filter clamps to. also, on the stock airbox there is a hose in the side of it that goes to one of the sensors... a "filter adapter" does not have anywhere to place this hose, where as the pop chargers have a valve built into the adapter. also... the pop chargers have a much nicer and larger filter... so for $120 its not bad compared to $50 for a filter plus $25 for an adapter... if theres one thing i've learned.. do things right the first time, it saves you money in the long run...

dchien- might be just psychological, but I might've noticed a subtle difference with the drop-in filter vs. stock...I thought I didn't feel anything this morning because when I did a competition intake setup on my other car there was a major difference between stock and mod intake. but come to think of it (and it confirmed my feeling on the way home today), the shift points on my AT G20 are now smoother expecially between 2nd and 3rd. this is in the low -mid torque area. it seems that the motor is breathing easier now and less dip right after 3,000-3500 rpm. off the line on normal acceleration, 1st gear climbs smoother than before. it's subtle.
