Quick hand here?

Ok, guys:

Winter's coming quick here in Northern Kenfucky. We don't have the worst winters ever, by any means, but we do get snow. I've been rolling ideas around in my head of a daily driver to get through the snowy months so I can rebuild/modify my 300 over the winter. The 300 is quite scary in the rain...I couldn't imagine it in the snow.

Anyway, I was just looking for a quick recommendation. I'm looking for the simplest, most reliable, cheapest, toughest 4wd jeep ever made. There has to be a few specific years and/or models that would fit this description well. I don't want anything fancy...I'd really like an old army jeep just cuz I think it'd be kinda cool...:p...but I would kinda like a heater and windows and doors and so on...would be kinda nice when it gets cold out. Something quick and simple to fix. Something that's not too difficult to find in decent running order for a few grand. Something just to get me through to Feb or March when I (hope to) have my 300 back together and the finances in order to get a more long term daily driver.

Thanks for the help, guys.

You describe a Jeep CJ 7 or CJ 5. A standard trans is more simple but an auto is very reliable.
The Jeep YJ's are also simple and are more pleasant to drive, but have EFI which introduces a bit of complexity. Lots of them come with a removable hard top which is lots warmer than the soft top,

Just go find a early-mid 90's Cherokee with the 4.0 I-6 and a selec-trac transfer case that's been relatively well taken care of. Service records are always a plus. As long as it's been cared for, it'll get you thru the winter no problem.

:uhoh: He specifically requested "quick and simple to fix" :)

The mid-aged Cherokees crossed my mind, but they're a little too new for me and they don't really fit the simple, rugged, roll it and drive home kinda image I think jeeps were meant to have.

I'll check out the CJ 7 and 5. Thanks, guys.
