how would I go about putting a second alternator on my car, I have a good alt from the 88 and would like to put it in the 82 so I can hook the system, and other acc's to it instead of the original alt.

I don't think you can hook up your system directly to an alt. I think there needs to be a battery for eletrical system stability. Voltage regulators can't react fast enough to step up the voltage for when something like a subwoofer hits. You would have a temp. current drop and that is what fries eletrical shit. How much of a system are you putting in that beast

If you want good advice on a system and great prices, get ahold of TWDZ28...he is a distributer and damn good installer.

the route most go with a high output audio system is a second battery with a higher output alternator, power capacitors can be uses as well.

well what im wondering now is if i can hook up the second alt to a second battery is that possible. I have a second battery so if i put the alt on and run the red wire from the back of the alt to the battery and ground the battery would that work and what would i do with the 2 wires that come of the top? there both the 63 amp stock alts, they both have the one red wire off the back and the two plug wire on the top.

Dude just run two batteries in parallel on one alternator, it should work fne, if not go with the capacitor.

so positive to positive and neg to neg correct and will that help any with the draw on it?

well said, i was going to say the same. the capacitors hold and store power. get a good battery, capacitors, and better altenator if needed. no need for 2 alts. i never heard of them b4 in my life. you can tell if you need more power when you see you radio(head unit) pulse to the beat of the music. it dims bright and low, then you are dranning your battery and alot of juice for the alt

yes my lights flicker, so if i put another battery in it will it stop that and all I have to do is run the poss to the poss and neg to neg? Is there something between the 2 batteries or should I ground them to differant spots? Sorry I've never done anything like this and dont want to mess anything up.

cant you get a higher output alternator? i think charging 2 batteries with the stock alt. might overwork it a little bit

Now it wont, it is in parallel, not series so it's still just a 12volt system.

get a battery isolator

you also have to make sure your head unit can handle the power. thats also why it flickers. they sell betteries that are ment for audio systems. i really dont know anything about them, i still have the stock berry from 00 in my car. those capacitor hold the power, they are what you need. i know rockford makes them. they look like a coffie can almost. go to like best buy and see what they say. or just another car audio place. ask questions like your interested, you donthave to buy anything

So how do I run them in parallel?

Bus the batteries together w/ the same large gauge wire as they already use, and tie them into the leads from the car.

Aight like ppl are saying put that other battery in and run it off of a copacitor and that way you can easily power amp, subs, speakers and keep you from wearing out your alt.

Or a lemon with two nails...LOL I think another battery and higher output alt will work, so will a capacitor. But two alts is asking for trouble I think. If you where going to do something like that you would almost certainly have to use a one wire alt, and not a factory replacement. I would go with a cap myself.

Get an Optima yellow or red top spiral cell battery and a 100 or 120 amp alternator.. Run a capasitor with Every amp and Make sure you use heavy enough power and ground wire.. I think this set up would be fine for an impressive system.. Cap's make a HUGE difference in power drain...but if your really goin nuts or wanna compete for SPL or anything than go with a multiple battery set-up

BTW most car audio manufacturers make Capasitors.. and you can get them in a range of sizes and outputs..
I know Rockford, monstercable, stinger, MTX, etc etc all make Caps..
