Whats up guys I own a 94 caprice 4.3Lv8. It was an x- police car. I'm gonna let you guys in on what i've done with it so far my plans for the future and i wanna see if anybody has some input or suggestions for my project!!!!!
When i picked up my caprice it only had 28,000 miles on it but it ran like shit! But hell C'mon 28,000 miles cant be that bad right so i bought it and i pulled one of the spark plugs and it was oil fouled to all hell so i gave it a Major tune-up I installed an optispark distributor some quality wires, I found out the cat waz bad 2 so i said what the hell chopped it all off and decided to convert it to a dual exhaust. so i decided to go spintech exhaust sytem with hooker ceramic coated headers i ran the pipes straight back no y shape exhaust!
I test drove it and it waz quite a considerable difference! it ran much better and sounded bad ass! Next step was the intake system i knew just by looking at it that my poor caprice could barely breathe the intake looked restricted to all hell so heres what i did i took off everthing up to the thottle body gave that a good cleaning took that off and installed a spacer then i got a rubber coupling from the throttle body then attached an after market MAF got a wire extension and got a big ass cylindrical K&N air filter so it would sit right in front of the grille theni took the coolant line from the reservoir to the throttle body took that off sealed it up. and just to tweak my system a lil more i got a variable resistor hooked that up in series to the IAT sensor so my computer thought it was always freezing outside to add a cold air effect and bump up my fuel pressure a tad!{which would only work at wide open throttle}! Next step i chucked those nasty ass police tires and got me some nice ass 20's and some low pro pirelli's !!!
This time when i took it out i couldn't believe the difference My caprice hauled ass i would put it up against a stock LT1 anyday! I know theres no replacement for cubic in but that doesnt mean with that an L99 cant compete with the Lt1's with acouple upgrades and a few tweaks to the system!

I have a 1994 L99 also, no mods, and I have to say that I'm not as disappointed as I thought I'd be with power over the last 5 years.
Good luck with your Caprice!

Thanks!! I mean the LT1 caprice has only 60 HP more than the L99 stock. so with a few mods and some tweaks to the system you could come up with 60 HP fairly easily if you wanted to. The whole point here is to demonstrate to those guys who keep sayin that the 4.3L is weak and the LT1 is bad ass! I mean c'mon it's not that big of a difference! but then again i will agree that the LT1 version does have more potential to begin with cause of its bigger displacement however the L99 is not weak!!!

Did you ever take engine torque into consideration. Because it is just as important as horsepower.
