Well I am 15 years old and my mom just bought me a 98' pontiac sunfire. I want to put a kick ass sound system in it, but I am stupid in this area! Haha! Well I know about 12 inch subs. I was thinking about gettin 2 12" sony xplod subs 1 xplod amp and a cd player. I dont know if this would be any good. I really want one that bumps really hard. Any ideas?

there's a reason it's called eXplode.
I went with all Infinity, but to have a good sound system you need to go where the money's at. do a lot or research and educate yourself.
For instance, my Infinity 12 is the Infinity flagship Sub the perfect 12dvq, it can hit using a box with only .4 ft3, so small that the speaker is outside the box. yet it can also play in a free air setup. in the right box (like the one I have) it hits as hard as a 15 or a pair of 12's (so I've been told). it took me well over a year to decide on what system to get, and even then it was a piece by piece thing. I had to hear each set of speakers before I would buy them, and I did immense amounts of research before deciding on what I thought weas a good setup. so don't rush to walmart and go stereo shopping yet. take your time and ask around as to what is a good system and what is not.

that is true.
I ran sony 6 years ago and it was crap....still is too.
For entry level I guess its OK.
We all have our own opinions. I run all Clarion Pro Audio.

Clarion is great stuff as well, just wanted to put out that I won't knock too many setups, but I have to say Sony and RF have gone down a little in their quality, while Audiobahn, JL, Kenwood, and Eclipse have gone up. Elemental Designs (IIRC) has great speakers for the price, almost too good to beat. Just remember to do your homework on a good system and you won't be dissapointed.

I agree, sony should stick to what they do best, home entertainmet, There home theatre gear is awome but the automotive audio selection isn't the greatest.

i got one 12" infinity in a sealed box and a mtx 300 watt amp and it hits very good. I had 2 10" before powered by a 4ch. 1600watt amp and this hits better than that. i would recommend an infinity sub and mtx amp. I have a Awai head unit but I am not so sure I would recommend getting one urself.

id suggest you get jl subs.. they have good sound and are very durable, stay away from sony.. i mean - you can get that shit at walmart.. how good could it really be? alpine makes AWESOME decks - in my opinion
remember that your sound comes from your head unit.. soyou should get the best one you can!

Use common knowledge.Don't go out and buy a amp that states it puts out 1000000 watts and only costs $50.00.Price usually in this field equals quality.Never look at peak watts that a amp puts out, only junk companies will print this shit all over their boxes to begin with. You want to look at RMS power rating(true power). Also look at the ohm loads the amp can handle and the THD ratings, lower numbers in each of these fields will give you better results. After you do get an amp, please don't be one of these idiots that say I don't even have this amp cranked up,I am refering to the gain. The gain is used to match the amp with your headunit, not to turn up the amps power.I personally like Alpine,Rockford Fosgate,Kicker, just to name a few.
