Ok, I got my new wheels last week, this week on Wednesday I took it to get aligned, they align it and then tell me that my front upper ball joint is broke, so I need to get the full upper front control arm, for them to install it it would be 200 something total. I was willing to pay that. Today I wake up, get ready and drive to school (50 minute drive) I get about 5 minutes down the road, stop at a red light, try to drive forward......... it's not going, I try some more, my clutch isn't doing anything, so I push it with my roommates help to safety and tow it to the place that did the alignment. My clutch is dead. They want $1220 for parts and labor for both the clutch and control arm. I'm not gonna pay that much for that stuff, so I look online and find these two things.
The important stuff!
Could you recheck me and make sure that these are in fact the correct parts that I need before I buy them, thanks!
Control Arm [L2000-57366] (the thing that confuses me here is the cheaper one says JAPAN after it, it has a different part number as the one underneath it, I want to make sure I get the one that will fit, and as far as my research has shown, the cheaper one will work, but please double check me)

Next is the clutch

I hope you can help me confirm these items so that I can fix my car myself and get back on the road. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANY HELP!

yeah that cheeper controle arm looks like it would work, and that clutch will work
I'd look at a junk yard for a control arm first though.

If I get one at a junkyard, how will I check to see if it has a good ball joint? I don't even know what mine looks like, to know that it is broken.

Thanks for the advice. Except that I just ordered the upper, like 30 seconds before reading your post. Oh well. At least the clutch is a good deal. Now all I have to do is take everything apart, get the flywheel refinished and put it all together. Which will be Saturday or Sunday when I start. I'll give myself a week to do it, I have 3 roommates, do you think it'll be very hard to remove the transmission with that many people?

Upper control arms are simple to replace yourself & the clutch aint so hard either. That's if you have the right tools. Vice grips, hammer, pry bar & a torch don't count.

How many people joined you?
I'm just kidding, thanks for the advise jackasssi. I found that website earlier, along with another one that's on geocities that's pretty awesome.

Upper Control Arms are fairly easy to replace. A couple of friends and I did one side at a time. The first side we did took like 4 hours and my friend accidentally popped a screwdriver off the breaker bar seeing if he was manly enough to loosen the spindle nut (for what reason I still don't know because you don't have to mess with it) and got stitches in his forehead. The next side was done with one other person and it took about an hour.
Don't pay too much to get your flywheel resurfaced either cuz you can get a stock replacement for like 90 bux. GL.

4hrs for an upper control arm? :grinno: It should take more like 10 min per side & that's with a smoke break.

I wanted it done right though.
j/p... It was the first time ever messing with that sort of thing. It took awhile cuz we were reading the manual and taking breaks and messing around...
