Lights around stick shift don't light.

The lights that suppose to light up around my stick shift don't light up. They lit a few times only so I know there is a light there. What gives?

Yes, it's supposed to light up. There's a light bulb on top of the Park indicator that if you take apart the console, you can replace. But, on mine, that part always worked. Mine, the light that lit up for what gear never worked. I just thought it wasn't supposed to. I took mine apart though and found the ground wire was broke in half. I soldered it back together and that works now. There's a ton of lights in the dash of these cars. It's a pain to keep them up but when they are all lit at night, it looks pretty cool.

I have a 2001 Aurora. Can you explain me the proceedure to take apart the console. Is it difficult. Would it be preferable to to bring it to the dealership?

Different deal on the 2nd gen. Please be specific as to your gen of Aurora because the 2 are very different.

The gear shift indicator is on the dash cluster, IIRC the gears are listed PRND123 from top to bottom, you need to disassemble the cluster I assume.

On the classic the gear shift indicator is on the console, it lights up, but the plastic housing for the gear shift indicator light breaks VERY easily.

:smokin:Look through the posts, that have taken the time to post here in the forum. Valuable info here! example: I saw a few posts back about the coffee holder and someone wanted to remove it, because theirs was broke. Take some time to view the OLD posts.

My gear changes also show up on the console. I have a 2001. I know that the the gear shift around the gear stick light up. It has a few times. I think it might be a loose connection. To dissasemble the cluster, is that difficult?

You mean the actual "stick" lights up (where you put your hand ) to shift? The shift indicator P R N D lights
up along with the tiny RED bar to show its position...

Ya the PRND123. The garage guy put in a new light, but it was a yellow light bulb rather than the blue green. Also I just noticed there are small chips on the side of the console that he removed to change the light bulb.
