im going to warn you why not to use electric saws at high speed (37,000rpm) on thick plastic.
have a picture:http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid143/p551c297f54074b5ef46a7c9c9cfad4a8/f68ebbca.jpg

after the saw skipped it ran along the side of my thumb. it created a very bad cut in its wake. at around two inches long it doesn't sound serious but it was, it cut right through a nerve, tenden, ligement and 20% of the artery. i just though that you might be careful (no, im not implying that you're not careful !) but to warn you that it meant three days in hospital and microsurgery, plastic surgery and hand therapy not to mention a three inch cut. (it had to be enlarged for surgery) so all you dremel (or similar) users beware. i would post a pic of the thumb but it scares me. so if you dont want a manky thumb surgery and stitces be careful.
(no sympahy needed, cutting through the nerve meant i fel no pain)
thanks for reading
Chris

Hey man i simphasize with you. I cut my right thumb off about 8yrs ago. They put it back on, and it hasnt been the same since. I mean its a little numb still and it hurts when I write with it. it took me about 8months to gain about 65% use of it so hang in there buddy

to the poor guys that cut their thumbs off, ouch. sorry it would have been cut off the the cut was lengthways and was also bone-deep. initially they (hospital people) thought it was just a cut and were going to stitch it up there and then but thankfully one of them said they thought it was deeper and worse than it appeared. if they hadn't id have hardly and feeling (there are two nerves in your thumb, i only cut one) and practically no use with it.

I had a similar incident with the same tool a while ago (not as serious as yours, but could have been). Good luck with the reeducation man :bigthumb:

Modeling is a dangerous hobby sometimes.

superglued??? :sly:

I have different experience but still very hurt and pain. When I was 13yrs old, I heated the cutter(blade) with the oven fire for cutting the the R/C car clear plastic body. I thought it is the best way to heat it.

Once the cutter was heated, I tried to cut the clear plastic, then the blade melted and dropped on my knee. The melted metal sticked to my skin, and feeling damn pain, now it has a big mark on my knee now which keeps reminding me to be careful with those tools.

take care man!

superglued??? :sly:

Super glue is becoming widely used as a first aid treatment to close wounds. There is a medical version called "DermaBond" ("Derma" means skin) which is supposedly just about the same as the cyanoacrylate that we use in our model making. As anyone who has superglued their fingers together will attest, super glue is very good for glueing skin  It is less painful than stitches and the wound heals better without a scar.

And I thought slipping with a red hot exacto blade into my finger was bad!
At least you have neat stories if anyone laughs at you for making plastic replicas of cars.
