Hello, Anyone have a diagram or something showing the alignment of the overhead cams and the crank? Last time I tried to align per the chiltons book and I was off and bent some valves. Any help is grateful thanks (94, auto)

The Ford manual says to line up the copper links of the timing chains with the timing marks on the camshaft and crankshaft gears. If the copper links of the timing chains aren't visible, split the chains in half and mark the two opposing links then line these up with timing marks on the gears. This info is out of the 1997 manual for the 4.6.

OK thanks, I see the markings on the chains to line up at opposite ends correct? The links get lined up onto the dots in the gear on the cam and what on the crank? Or do I put the crank to TDC on piston 1 then line the cams up with that? Thanks again

There should be a mark on the crankshaft sprocket also. The picture in the book shows the keyway halfway between 9 and 12 o'clock and the mark on the sprocket is at the bottom. It looks like 8 teeth from the keyway counting counterclockwise and not including the tooth at the keyway.
