I have noticed lately when driving I have little power at all times. I hear a clanking under my seat and at 50+ mph the car rocks and shakes. A friend has told me it could be the injectors being clogged. The turbo does not seem to work but that could be because of this other problem. The car has 216k miles but is in great shape. I have been told it could be the cat convertor, ign wires, coils. ????? Please help. Thx, Barry

Not sure what the clanking noise might be... possibly a loose heat shield for the cat conv? At 216k, anything's possible.

As far as losing power, have you replaced the fuel filter recently? If not, do that first. It's an easy swap (filter is right under the passenger's front door), and the part is <$10. If you haven't replaced in the past year or so, then you're probably due for one anyway.
Also, is the Service Engine soon light on for any of this?

Loss of Power can be alot of things, but with 216K the converter is a good possibility. If it is clogged, you will loose power. One way to tell is at nite run the car get it hot and look under the car.. if the CAT glows then its shot! fuel filter and tune-up is a good idea. Your car isn't a turbo, it is Supercharged. Is the SC is bad or has issues you will get crappy performance and Mileage. With 216K the SC is probably shot. Again any check engine lights? Bottom line, time to spend some $$.. o2 sensors, tune-up, and probably a SC rebiuld is in the works. What has been serviced in the car thus far?

Thanks guys for the info. The engine light pops on all the time but have learned to ignore it w/ all the miles on the car. My mileage is 17-18 and the car runs like crud. The turbo has run fine up until a couple months ago. The problem seemed to happen when I dumped some gas treatment stuff in the tank. Ever since, I have had probs. The little things, I need to do. Is it worth putting a ton of $$$ in a car w/ this many miles? Car looks great inside and out, just seems to be under the hood. Thx again!

Sorry, I know it is a supercharger and not a turbo. Bad habit calling it as such. The clanking is under my peadals and clanks when I accelerate and then let of the gas. It is loud. Thx again!

Yeah, you should check those ECM codes to find out why your SES light is coming on. I don't know if you need to rebuild your supercharger though. I'd start with whatever is causing that service engine light to come on. If you don't know how to check your codes, check out this page: http://www.geocities.com/dann8785/serviceenginesoon.html
It does a lot better job explaining it than I could.

clanking sound could be the harmonic balancer - though I'm not sure why it would sound as if it were coming from under the driver's side seat. I agree with barrys92, find out what the codes are to give some idea of where to start.

Thanks guys for the help on the computer code thing. It worked as suggested and my car gave me codes to help me figure out my problems. It also gave me codes that were not on the website. What does that mean? and, can someone tell me where my ECM and knock-sensor are? I am handy but not a clue where these things are located. The help I rcvd has been greatly appreciated. Are there any tips I need to know on these parts? Thx again!

What codes are you receiving? I will look through my manual to see if they're listed.

1. have a lot to add to this. I.m having the same problems wit the same 92 pa sc. mine has only 120k on it. i'll run u through the sequence to see if u can help. the first thing I noticed was noise from the sc. figured I need it repaired. then I started having rough idle. after the rough idiling came the same problem you are having at 50m/hr with power loss and low 10mpg. also the battery gauge got jumpy. I changed the fuel filter and did a tune up but wasn't really helpful. then the next day it didn't start. would crank but wouldn't start. took to mechanic and had the harmonic balancer changed. got it starting again but didn't fix the rest of the problems. few days later the engine light came on with codes 19 and 44. took it to another mechanic. he told me their was a short in the ect module. he also confirmed that I needed another sc and told me the o2 sensor was workin fine.. I told him to fix the short in the ect module. he also cleaned the injectors. I didn't get the sc fixed too much money rite now. came out fine from the shop. 3 days later a heat shield fell from the catlytic conv. and another 4 days later the following symptons came back: noises at 50m/hr; loss of power and mileage down again to 10; jumpy battery gauge. the only thing that didn't come back was the engine light. this is were I am at rite now. if anyone can add to this that would be helpful.

Cntrysthbst, thanks for bringing this to our attention and yes, we did have the following notice attached to an "Important Information" header, in each Buick sub-forum; however, it had a timer attached for 3-months in order to see how effective it would be. It looks like we need to reinstate the notice. I will follow-up.:uhoh:
