Transmission????

i have looked on the quick search and i dont see any problems exactly like this one so i would appreciate if any one could help my friend out my friend has a 96 Eclipse GS (automatic) and recently when he has it in reverse or drive it sometimes goes into neutral on its own (once again its an automatic) and just this morning he was driving it and it wouldnt shift into 2nd gear it was at 4.5k in first and stayed in 1st??? sound like a transmission problem??? thanks to everyone who helps me out!

could be your shift solenoids, could be your torque converter...

EIther way if your car's not going into gear, it sounds like you need a rebuild. My maxima had the same problems, it wouldnt shift into second, it would go from 1-3, and i just gave it to aamco for a 1300 dollar rebuild.

Get it checked out by a professional as soon as possible, you dont know what damage has been done.

its my friends car so ill tell him. anyone have any other ideas? what do shift solenoids do? and your torque converter?
