Job options

Hey everyone...wondering opinions on job options...or what you suggest. At my current work they may be getting rid of night shift at the call centre in the near future, and want opinions on what I should do:

1/ If they offer it take the redundancy package
2/ go back to working day shifts
3/ look for jobs in car sales. (I've already emailed Rick Damelian :D )
4/ Look for jobs in real estate sales - another interest of mine
5/ Look for other customer service/telco jobs
6/ Go back to teaching music privately and putting up with little kids
7/ Become a doll bludger :p

By the way...I just found tenants for my investment unit...lease for the next 2 years! Only put it on the market on the weekend, so that was fast. Atleast that's out of the way...and less to worry about.

I'm hoping the redundancy package will be betweeen 8 - 13K. Hopefully closer to the 13K mark, from what a friend calculated.

What do ya'll think :)

I guess it depends on if you see your job as a money-making exercise or something you enjoy. I wouldn't be teaching if I didn't love it (most of the time) as the crap usually outweighs the benefits. That's why I'm wagging school today

Car sales is out... you have too much knowledge about cars to be a salesperson :p Besides, I can just see you selling the car and then talking them into a lowering package, new cams, headers, exhaust etc... J/K - you'd prolly be great at it, but I'd check to see what the salary package is like.

Are day shifts so bad? Last time I worked night-shift (bartending) I got sick of it. Then again, a friend loved it (he was an air traffic controller though).

Maybe shop around and see what's available. My gut instinct is that whatever you do, you'll be great at it so you might as well choose something you enjoy :)

I've just realised I can't answer your question as I'm running on zero energy and thinking is out of the question :bloated: I guess I'll shut up now :sun:

BTW - what's a "doll bludger"? Someone who sneaks around beating up toys? Deb's little girl better hide hers :D

Day shifts are rotating roster....I'm not sure if they can offer us a set time, because i wouldn't mind doing a set afternoon shift, but otherwise it does knock you about a bit.

Doesn't look like we're getting offered redundacy :(

I sent an email to one of the honda outlets, and they sent a reply from the sales manager. Gave me a number to call, if I want to organise a meeting ;)

Other than that, I'm contemplating real estate as well. But I have to wait until everything is official, and we get told if it happens what our options are.

No harm in meeting the honda sales manager though ;)

HAHA.....

actually asked my friend who works for a honda dealership, and he said aftermarket sales is good for women. Good pay.

I can imagine myself selling cars at a honda dealership, and perving at all the nice cars :D

HAHAHA :)

Well I haven't called the guy yet...probably tomorrow and try and meet up next week. No harm in finding out more about the types of jobs available now is it?

Well if I'm ever in that position I'll let you know, but from what my friend said the aftermarket sales is good $$$ and even in new car sales...you get allowances for driving your own car to work, or you can get company vehicles like he has.

hahaha....what did I scare you....just be lucky you haven't seen me in a bad state of road rage :p

That was only because the merc infront was stupid and kept braking constantly doing like 40km/hr and still couldn't overtake the truck because there was a slight curve in the road

Heheheh... just as well you were a fair way up the road when I nailed 3 or 4 cars I'd got caught behind on the way back from Stanwell Tops. I like my 8000rpm, 2nd gear backoff, 60-100km/h, lifting into 3rd. :D Not to mention the damned 4WD that kept hitting the brakes in front of me on every bend :p

I wish the road had been clearer on the run through Smithfield... could have been fun to play with the rice bubble... ooops... prelude ;)

HAHA....remember that 4WD.....he held you back quite a long way. I had to slow down to 60 for a while.

What about that bloody corner on the cumberland hwy approaching the traffic light, couldn't see the parked cars

saw you zip across, and so did I. They should have had better signs at that intersection. was dangerous.

Need a flashing sign saying whether the light is red or green.

Bloody on the freeway today and this WRX on the left lane, almost hit this commodore infront of me and then almost hit me, trying to change lanes. Some people should learn how to drive. He put his hand up to apologise afterwards  Went flying past after that to get away from the idiot.

Some people should learn how to drive before they get a fast car!

Yeah, I had a shocker on Pennant hills road on the way to work... a semi in front and a bloody new ITR tailgating me. Truck stopped, I pull up, he hammers the brakes and pulls into the lane next to me rather than hit me.

Not happy at all with his idiocy

Have a meeting on monday morning at 7:30 with the Boss to find out whats happening. They are definitely putting us back to days. Not offering redundancies, and contract states they can put us on whatever hours.

Some of us were originally hired for night shift, so we'll attempt to ask for redundancy or fixed afternoon shifts, if not maybe I'll ask for same roster as my sister, so she can take me to work. Parking is issue. I can't park my car on the street. Only park insidefor 3:30pm shifts during the day.

If not....Honda here I come?

It will be a drop in pay.....but will still get 2 weekends on a month, so it is ok.

Puts a bummer on the weekend though, because have to wait to monday to find out better details.

That sucks. Uncertainty is always the worst thing... well... maybe.

I used to hate working in the city as I'd spend a fortune on parking because I hate public transport.

I also hate public transport. Just puts a damper on things cause everyone is in a sh@t mood and don't feel like working.

work in strathfield. there isn't any parking round here during the day, you have to park blocks away, or just risk getting parking fines. Plus like I said before, I don't park my car out on the street.

Public transport is pretty much non-existent where I live, and its a nightmare even contemplating catching a bus to the train station....It takes 40 minutes on a good day to travel 8 km

When I was living at Smithfield I was commuting to Springwood and later to the CBD and that was a shocker by public transport. Buses that didn't stop when you needed to get to Fairfield, trains that just sucked... yuck. Later I was travelling from North Richmond to Sydney Uni... No trains to NR and busses to Richmond were few and far between...plus a 1 hour train ride each way - if the line wasn't undergoing maintainance.

Driving was so much better.

True....that's why I drove to Uni, just for the peace of mind, and saving up to an hour compared to public transport. Although sometimes it took me an hour and a half to get home anyway.

cool. I'm considering studing real estate by correspondence, but I have to wait to see whether I got this position as fault co=ordinator in Network Management. It would be so cool if I did, although I wouldn't have time to do much posting, cause its flat out there. But you learn so much about technology and the way stuff works...pretty amazing.
