Potential 00 Eclipse buyer..

If I can get the money this summer, I'm thinking of selling my 95 civic in order to buy what may be a 00 Eclipse..
What are things to watch out for? Any reason not to buy them? Just looking for some owner's input. I was a little disappointed when I found they had discontinued the AWD aspect of the Eclipse..
I'm thinking about getting a GS.. I know the GT has more power but I'd rather have the 4 cyl instead of the 6, surprisingly.. an Eclipse with a 6 never sounded right to me.

the GS won't be much faster than your civic.

Well this is a year away.. so maybe I will try for an 00 GT..
What should I watch out for? Potential problem areas? I know the 95-99 Turbos had notorious "crank-walk".. anything like that in the newer Eclipses?

The only other thing I'm worried about is that I've notice there aren't a lot of aftermarket parts for the 00+ Eclipses..

Theres no way i would go with a 4 cylinder 3g eclipse....if i were you, i'd get a 5 speed GT.... I mite be interested in civic depending on how much you want for it.

i wouldn't go w/ the new one and when an owner of a new one says taht, you have to step back and look a lot closer, the 2g turbos have SO MUCH MORE POTENTIAL than the new i4's and v6's and you can push 12's with less than 4k $$$ in parts without running nitrous and if you got an AWD eclipse, you could push 11's definitely research more on those before you make your final decision

I would have to agree with this guy i have a 00GS 4 speed automotic with a few mods but a GT 5 Speed would defently be better at least for performance wise

you must not be talking about the eclipse concept E. the awd, 400hp car, gas engine to drive the front wheels, electric engine to drive the back ones? but i have seen the body style of the 4g or what they think its gonna be. it kinda looks like the new galant. looks horrible to me. but it looks nothing like the concept the released like a year back

DO NOT sell your Civic for an Eclipse, especially not a GS -- you'll be so disappointed. I have a '92 Integra myself (just a bit quicker than most Civics) and my roommate has a '01 GS automatic. I prefer my car to his any day of the week in terms of looks, comfort, ergonomics, and acceleration.
You should know this as well, our Hondas, unmodded, usually walk most of these new 3rd gen Eclipses out of the box. If you are looking for more luxury than your Civic, I'd recommend a newer (94-01) Integra. You'll probably be much happier than with a new Eclipse boat.
Otherwise, I'd suggest a 2nd gen turbo Eclipse to you. The 2nd gen turbo and 3rd gen anything (even V6) aren't even comparable, having been in both.

I would suggest the turbo 2g as well, but the 3g V6 is in second and shouldn't even be compared to honda's it is much better in suspension and torque which will get you off the line faster than most anything w/ a 4 in it but yes

I heard that the engine in basically all eclipses, even 3gen lasts only like 70k miles, have to replace oil seals every 10k miles, etc. ARe they really that bad, or not?

i have a 100k mile warranty on my car, all the new eclipses after 2003 do, if it only lasts 70k miles, i'll blow it 2 times b4 the 100k mark , i talked to some guys w/ high mileage ones, one guy had to replace his tranny, but thats because he neglected to fix a bent rim and it gave the driveline trouble til it broke, his car was pretty heavily modified, intake, headers exhaust, full suspension, 18"s SAFC shortshifter brembo rotors w/ metal master pads....and he let me drive it absolutely the best car i've ever driven, it had 86k on the ticker and felt better than my car w/ 8600

The only thing I don't like is where the plugs are. I hope I don't have to change plugs often. If I didn't mention I've had my '00 GT for 24 hours.

the plugs are perfect!!!
they allow optimal spark, without having to modify it. with the dual coils, and having no wire on two of the plugs, and the other two plugs have a very short wire, allowing for optimal spark without having to go to a whole race sset up.

changing our plugs is just like most other 4 banger cars. As long as you have the correct spark plug socket, and a long extension you will be fine. you shouldnt be changing your plugs that often anyways!

oh by the way the concept-E looks like ASS... i will start a thread to continue this discussion, so dont fill this one up with the crap i'm about to start. Thanks!

i think that changing the plugs on a 4cyl is much different from changing them on the v6. with the v6, you have to remove the intake manifold to get to the back 3 plugs.

I was talking in reference to the 4 cyl cars. I dont have that much experience with the 6 cyl. i thought he was talking in reference to the 4's sory. at least you dont have to pull the engine like the newer trans-am's!
