How much does it cost to install NOS. I guessed about 300-400 bucks. ALso, how much does it cost to refill a tank, adn how long does it last (on average, of course).

OH! Damn! My friend is getting it on his Jetta, but I don't recall the price for installing it. I'm sure it depends on the type of system, but 3-400 sounded right. Also, filling it was pretty cheap (if I remember right)...like, not even enough to worry about. The lifetime of the tank, obviously depends on how many shots you use (and how "big" each shot is) and the size of the tank. It would basically be specific to your application, so once you figure that out it would be an easy calculation.

Like, how much. $10, $25, $50, $80?? But on the Jetta, how long would it last under constant use (for the sake of argument)

it could cause the tank to explode. Which would be like very bad, it would send shrapnel everywhere, it would also probably get hot enought to seperate the nitrogen and oxygen, so, any heat could cause things to catch fire, and it might make a fire bomb. Most likely it wouldnt though, shrapnel would be the biggest concern. Even then, there wouldnt be much.
But needless to say, dont overfill.

Where I go, it's $3.03 per pound, so about $30 the first time you fill, and then about $23 each time after that.:) Also, my 10# bottle would last about 12 - 15 runs(didn't spray as much as I COULD have)

Are nitrous systems even legal in Canada? I would think it'd be quite difficult to find places to refill.. unless you know/are a dentist or something...

I don't think it is the same grade of nitrous. It might work though idunno.
Were I go it is $3.50 per pound. Be sure to get a bottle warmer it is very handy in keeping constant bottle pressure.

And dental nitrous is the same as car nitrous, it is just more refined, ie, better. So, getting dentist Nitrous is better;)

Even if it's illegal, there should still be places to fill the bottle for strictly RACE CARS, right? Just go there. Who are they to tell you that you don't have an 8 second 1200hp monster at home, waiting for it's 50hp shot of nitrous to be refilled:D

dentist nitrous is not the same as car nitrous. Car nitrous has sulfur dioxide (SO2) in it so that people cant huff it. And that's why car nitrous systems stink bad when car's use it. (It smells like fart). Dentist nitrous is pure.

Car nitrous is "clean" while dentist nitrous is mixed with oxygen, this is because "clean" nitrous is too strong (in worst case it can kill you).

most companies that sell nitrous have lists of dealers that will refill the tank on their site...

worst case scenario, you could go to a welding supply store, as they have what you want.

But when we're talking about Nitrous in a car... i think this added oxygen in dentist nitrous would actually make it run better... though it mihgt create a lil more heat... but it ain't like u're spraying constantly, I don't see it as much of a problem....

You don't want to use dentist nitrous in your car, oxygen is very flamable. And you don't wan't to use "car" nitrous at the dentist.

I think many people have argued about this topic before... I think awhile back on another board, someone suggested use of pure O2 in cars, and that was obviously not good because u're right, oxygen is flammable, and on top of that, pure O2 combustion would produce too much heat and would blow the engine... The nitrous oxide at the dentist isn't pure O2, it IS mostly NO2, true, it probably has more oxygen than normal "car" nitrous, but this added amount shouldn't be too much of a problem, as long as you don't spray like every 10 seconds...

I never said use "car" nitrous at the dentist... that way won't work.... but using dental nitrous in cars should be fine, i've seen it done...

OK, since me and my dentist talked about this while i was waiting for a tooth to be pulled, and since he has a car side, i am confident in what im saying.
Dentists use almost pure NO2. There may be some impurities, but its minimal. Car nitrous isnt as cleanly refined, probably to save on costs, and it probably has an odor agent added (as with natural gas). Dentist nitrous does not have O2 in it. Only when you heat up nitrous does it dissociate into nitrogen and oxygen. You will then have 33% oxygen and 66% nitrogen. In the atmosphere, it is approximately 20% oxygen. This is why running nitrous will provide more power. And cars dont run exlusively on nitrous; its added. So, if you used dental nitrous, you would need a slighly smaller shot of it to achieve the same effective amount of oxygen in the engine.

Here is a grossly wrong, oversimplified way of showing it:
Dental nitrous; 33% Oxygen
Regular car nitrous; 25% oxygen (actually much higher)

to get 10pounds of oxygen, you will need 30 pounds of dental nitrous or 40 pounds of regular nitrous. Then total amount of oxygen remains the same, just, u will need less of the base material (nitrous) to get it.

Also, if they do use sulfur dioxide to add smell to nitrous, i am a little upset, as sulfur dioxide is responsible for acid rain. So, use dental nitrous if possible:)

Proves my point... that added oxygen in dentist nitrous will add more heat and if u're comparing dental and car nitrous by same amounts, you get more energy(with the added oxygen in combustion) and also heat energy...
