93 gt tranny problems

I have a problem with my 93 probe gt 5 spd. It revs really high in all gears, and I can't seem to exceed 140 km/h (about 86 MPH) without redlining. I bought it with 14" steel rims and a friend said that if I could find 16" gt rims that it would fix the problem. I don't think that's the case because while driving in 4th and 5th theres a increasingly noticeable thumping while accelerating and today I noticed the noise started happening in 3rd gear as well. I had a thought that maybe one of the previous owners was stupid enough to put the 2.0L version of the transmission in there. Anyone have any thoughts?

dude, its obviously the wheels. the two inch difference in wheels may not be the only thing. how big are the tires. that what really matters. if the tires are low profile that would definitely slow you down. id change the front wheel to 16" rims or at least tires that are close to stock
then try your speed, its cheaper than changing a tranny

Chaninging tires arent going to fix a bad tranny, that will only let things get worse......

I'm starting to think it's a combination of small tires and a tranny problem. I've just got regular tires on 14" steel rims right now but I'm getting my hands on some stock GT rims soon. I'm hoping the larger wheels will cut down the RPM's but I still think it'll be reving high. I'll have to see after I stick the new wheels on.
